Ridgewood NJ. Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s Pathfinder 1 prototype electric airship is set to embark on a series of test flights over Silicon Valley. It will take increasingly ambitious flights until it moves to Ohio, where an even larger airship is being built. Pathfinder 1 is the largest aircraft to take to the skies since the Hindenberg. Brin’s company, LTA Research, hopes to use the airships to provide disaster relief where roads and airports are damaged and provide zero-carbon passenger transportation.
At an impressive length of 124.5 meters, Pathfinder 1 surpasses the size of current Goodyear airships and even the massive Stratolaunch plane designed for launching orbital rockets. This colossal aircraft holds the title of being the largest to grace the skies since the era of the gargantuan Hindenburg airship in the 1930s. While bearing a resemblance to the ill-fated Hindenburg, Pathfinder 1 distinguishes itself by incorporating new materials and technologies. Unlike its predecessor, it employs stable helium rather than flammable hydrogen for lift, stored in 13 sizable rip-stop nylon cells and monitored by lidar laser systems. The airship features a robust framework consisting of 10,000 carbon-fiber reinforced tubes and 3,000 titanium hubs, creating a protective skeleton around the gas cells, all enveloped in a lightweight synthetic Tedlar skin. Propelled by twelve electric motors powered by diesel generators and batteries, the Pathfinder 1 boasts vertical take-off and landing capabilities, reaching speeds of up to 65 knots (75 mph), with initial flights conducted at lower speeds.

so cool
Just our opinion. Looks creepy. Reminds us of our US history we learned in school of the past before we were born. Looks like the Hindenburg.
our, us, we.
Failed English much?
“It’s not a blimp! It’s an airship!”
What a moron.
Gasoline is 100x more power dense than batteries.
In other words, 1 lb of gasoline has as much power as 100 lbs of battery.
Air travel is ALL about weight reduction.
Using batteries for air flight is incredibly stupid on so many levels.
But this is probably just being done for publicity.
I used the “our, we” as I was speaking for my family. And no, I never failed English you moron. Shaking my head at you rude comment
Sure you were.
Try to decide on a gender and stick with it.
