Trenton NJ, Republican lawmakers are calling for New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin to resign after a heated Assembly Judiciary Committee hearing on Monday. Assemblymen Robert Auth and Gerry Scharfenberger blasted Platkin for failing to release state crime statistics since 2020, despite being legally required to do so.

Where’s the Crime Data?

The last time New Jersey released official crime statistics, including domestic violence reports, was four years ago. Lawmakers argue that withholding this data makes it harder to pass effective policies to protect residents.

🔹 “His job is to protect New Jersey residents, not to use the attorney general’s office as a stepping stone for political ambition,” said Auth. “I am sick and tired of it, and so are the people of this state.”

🔹 “How are we supposed to legislate appropriately when the AG refuses to provide the data required by law?” added Scharfenberger. “Platkin’s refusal to release this information is an abdication of duty—one that puts lives at risk.”

Domestic Violence Bills Advance, but AG’s Transparency Questioned

During the hearing, the committee reviewed six domestic violence bills, passing five unanimously. These measures aim to:
✅ Expand counseling for children
✅ Prioritize custody for survivors
✅ Strengthen police protections
✅ Criminalize trespassing
✅ Allow victims to take control of their phone accounts
✅ Launch a public awareness campaign

However, Auth and Scharfenberger withheld support for a three-year domestic violence court pilot, questioning its necessity after judiciary representatives testified that a separate court was not needed.

Calls for Resignation and Impeachment Efforts

Following the hearing, Republican leaders intensified calls for Platkin’s resignation. Less than two weeks ago, GOP leadership, including Assembly Leader John DiMaio, introduced articles of impeachment against Platkin, accusing him of:
➡️ Using the AG’s office for political gain
➡️ Weaponizing investigations to push a political narrative
➡️ Failing to protect public safety

🔹 “He is failing victims, failing the law, and failing the people of New Jersey,” Auth concluded. “It’s time for him to go.”

What’s Next?

With pressure mounting, will AG Platkin finally release New Jersey’s crime data? Or will Republican leaders push impeachment efforts further? Stay tuned for updates as this political battle unfolds.

  1. I’d like to see the stats of honest law abiding citizens exercising their second amendment rights who crossed the line.
I’ll tell you why they don’t talk about it. Because law abiding citizens don’t break the law and it doesnt happen.
Contrary to what Murphy and his syncophants say
How about prosecuting the thugs in Newark Camden and Paterson who shoot each other
