Lawmakers Call Out Governor’s Remarks Amid illegal Immigration Crackdown

Trenton NJ, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is under fire for recent comments suggesting that he would house a non-citizen in his home, defying federal immigration enforcement.
The remarks, made during an interview with Blue Wave New Jersey and posted on his office’s YouTube channel on Feb. 1, have drawn sharp criticism from Republican lawmakers and immigration policy advocates.
Murphy’s Controversial Statement
During the interview, Murphy described housing a person whose immigration status was still in process, saying:
“There’s someone in our broader universe whose immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to, and we said, you know what? Let’s have her live at our house above our garage and good luck to the feds trying to come in to try to get her.”
His statement comes amid President Donald Trump’s latest executive orders cracking down on illegal immigration, which have resulted in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in major cities, including Newark and Paterson.
Republican Lawmakers Slam Murphy
Republican Assemblyman Erik Peterson was quick to condemn Murphy, accusing the governor of harboring an illegal migrant and challenging federal authorities.
“The governor thinks he’s above the law,” Peterson said. “Instead of enforcing our duly enacted laws, he’s breaking them and telling others to do the same. It’s outrageous.”
Peterson also questioned Murphy’s motives, recalling a 2018 scandal involving Murphy’s Sky Blue FC women’s soccer team, which was plagued by terrible living conditions, including plastic bags for windows and no showers.
“Murphy let women on his own soccer team suffer in terrible conditions. Now he wants us to believe he’s suddenly acting out of kindness? It’s about power, political theater, and maybe cheap labor to clean his mansion.”
Legal Ramifications of Harboring an Undocumented Immigrant
Under federal law, knowingly harboring an undocumented immigrant is a crime that carries penalties ranging from fines to prison time.
Murphy has already taken steps to restrict cooperation between New Jersey law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, further fueling criticism that he is prioritizing political activism over the rule of law.
“If Murphy wants to be a social justice warrior so badly, he should resign instead of making a mockery of his oath of office to uphold the law,” Peterson concluded.
What’s Next?
With immigration enforcement intensifying and political tensions rising, Murphy’s remarks are likely to remain a flashpoint in the ongoing debate over sanctuary policies and state vs. federal authority.

What an asshole.
He’s looking for media attention as he eyes the presidential run in 2028
He saw the booking photo of trump and his handlers thought he might try it to get free media coverage. *the difference being Murphy is a criminal and Trump was not*
But it won’t work
Go back to Goldman Sachs and Massachussetts you carpet bagger
Don’t forget to give Morton Downey JR his choppers back
Murphy can be president of GITMO.
He would still have us wearing COVID masks if he could.
maybe they will throw this A-Hole in jail
Homan spoke of Murphy’s nonsense. Now, they are backtracking.
Murphy has zero chance of the presidency. What can he show for his accomplishments? Business as usual in NJ? Lower taxes? Better roads? Educational excellence? ANYTHING??
murphy is just another limousine liberal grossly over compensated Goldman Sachs alumni who bought the job… remember how all the Dems lined up to endorse Tammy for Senator? Its amazing how an unknown rich white liberal gets all the minority dem party bosses to walk in line and he gets more money than Steve Sweeny for governor… I’d like to see the IRS investigate if someone’s ‘family foundation’ made ‘donations’ to churches and ‘youth groups’ that were tax deductible for political intentions
