Trenton NJ, a woman loudly confronted Phil Murphy at a Lunar New Year celebration at Drumthwacket about the New Jersey-Israeli State Commission.

As the woman railed against Israel’s “genocidal” actions in Gaza, the governor oddly asked if she wanted a picture . The woman was “escorted” out of the premises.

Governor Murphy, never a fan of free speech , “its above his pay grade” said, “People have the right to protest (if they are liberals) I don’t begrudge that, but there’s a time and a place,”.  The point being that a holiday celebration at the governor’s mansion is neither the time nor place.

The Governor straddled the political fence as far as he could ,saying “that he tries to separate the passion on both sides of the Israeli-Gaza conflict with the human need.”

“New Jersey is home to many Jews and many Palestinians. As such, Murphy said his administration supports the protection of innocent lives and the release of hostages held by Hamas.”

But even Governor Murphy has to face the bottom line:

“Let’s remember (the Terrorist Organization)Hamas started this. … And Hamas has let the Palestinian people down, to say it politely.” As for the state’s Israeli Commission, Murphy said that’s not going anywhere.

As for security at Drumthwacket you can bet it’s going to get a lot tighter.

  1. Whoever reported this story appears to have misrepresented the governor’s spoken response to the protester’s interruption. Did Gov. Murphy actually state, parenthetically, that only liberals have freedom of speech? Or did the reporter insert a false part of the quotation? This kind of editorializing should be clearly identified as such, and run on a separate web page. I happen to vehemently disagree with those supporting the Palestinians and Hamas; however, apparently false reporting does no one in our democracy any good. An honest free press is essential to democracy. Hard news and opinion need to be clearly separated.
