Glen Rock NJ, on Halloween night, an employee at Bottle King liquor store in Glen Rock was injured after attempting to stop a shoplifting suspect in the store’s parking lot. The incident, which took place on Prospect Street, involved a suspect stealing liquor and fleeing, only to be confronted by the store employee.
Around 7:27 p.m. on October 31, Glen Rock police responded to a call reporting a theft in progress and a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old Bottle King employee from Maywood injured in the lot. According to police, the employee had chased a man suspected of stealing $655 worth of liquor. After tackling the suspect, a struggle ensued, during which a 2006 Toyota Camry struck the employee, allowing the suspect to escape.
The Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated the employee on-site before transporting him to Hackensack University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Through video surveillance, police identified the driver of the Toyota as a 37-year-old resident of Wayne. Believed to be the shoplifter’s accomplice, the driver was subsequently arrested by Officer Sarah Orsita and charged with assault by auto and conspiracy to commit shoplifting. The suspect is currently being held in Bergen County jail pending a hearing in Superior Court in Hackensack.
The primary shoplifting suspect remains at large, and Glen Rock police are actively investigating. Detective Sgt. James Calaski, supported by Glen Rock and Fair Lawn Police officers, is leading the investigation. Police urge anyone with information to contact the department at 201-652-3800.
This incident highlights the risks store employees may face when confronting shoplifters, and serves as a reminder to report suspicious activity to authorities instead of taking matters into one’s own hands.

Pretty harsh to hit the noble employee with a car. Why not just drive away?
The judge will not be receptive to the defense, because there is none.
Its all Karma, they will get what they deserve.
Karma is at work, all the time, for everyone. So if ‘they’ will get what they deserve, it was just as much the employee’s karma to get run down. But you eeeeejiots never think about it like that, do you?
