Mahwah NJ, in a remarkable act of bravery, Mahwah Police officers are being celebrated for saving a driver from his vehicle moments before it was engulfed in flames. The incident, which took place on October 19 on Route 287, involved a serious late-night crash between a car and a large tractor-trailer.
On Friday, Mahwah Police shared the story on social media, saying, “Several weeks ago while you were sleeping, the Mahwah Police responded to a fiery car crash and rescued the driver, saving his life.” The post highlighted the quick-thinking actions of Lt. Mike Blondin and Officer Chris Lupo, who were instrumental in pulling the driver to safety.
In footage of the rescue, an officer can be heard urgently calling out, “Make sure nobody else is in the car!” as they worked quickly to secure the scene.
Mayor Jim Wysocki praised the officers for their heroic actions, saying, “Members of our Police Department didn’t hesitate to take life-saving actions to rescue the driver of the car who had been trapped. The driver is recovering and is very thankful for the measures our officers took to save him. If you see any members of our Police Department, please be sure to thank them for their service.”
The driver, who is currently recovering, owes his life to the swift and selfless response of Mahwah’s officers. This courageous act serves as a reminder of the dedication and bravery our local police display daily to keep the community safe.
