If your pet has a pre-existing condition, you may be wondering if pet insurance can help cover the costs of treatment. You might also be surprised to learn that the answer is yes! Keep reading to learn more about pet insurance that covers pre existing conditions and how to find a plan that fits your needs.

What are the benefits of pet insurance?

One of the biggest benefits of pet insurance is that it can help cover the costs of treating a pre-existing condition. This is important because it means that pet owners don’t have to worry about expensive vet bills if their pet falls ill or needs surgery. Some pet insurance policies will cover a pre-existing condition as long as it was diagnosed and treated before the policy was purchased. This can be a huge relief for pet owners who are worried about being able to afford treatment for their furry friends.

Pet insurance can help protect you from costly vet bills by providing coverage for both routine care and unexpected illnesses or injuries. Most policies also have a cap on how much they will pay out per incident, so you don’t have to worry about being stuck with a huge vet bill. In addition, many pet insurance companies offer discounts on routine care such as vaccinations and spay/neuter procedures.

What type of coverage is available for pets with pre-existing conditions?

Many pet insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions. However, those that do typically offer coverage for a set period of time (usually 12 months) from the time the policy is purchased. The coverage usually includes diagnostic tests, treatments, and surgeries related to the pre-existing condition, as well as medications prescribed for it.

Some policies also include reimbursement for routine care costs that are associated with the pre-existing condition. These routine veterinary care visits are incredibly valuable for both the health of your pet and your bank account. By ensuring your pet receives preventive care, you can help them avoid more serious health problems, which also saves you money on costly vet bills.

How much does pet insurance cost?

There is no one definitive answer to this question because the cost of pet insurance can vary depending on numerous factors, such as the age and breed of your pet, the level of coverage you choose, and the insurance company you go with.

The cost of pet insurance for a pet with a pre-existing condition will also vary depending on the insurance company, the specific pre-existing condition, and the coverage the pet owner chooses. However, according to a study conducted by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, the average cost of pet insurance for a dog with a pre-existing condition is about $290 per year, while the average cost for a cat with a pre-existing condition is about $230 per year.

What are some of the most common pre-existing conditions for pets?

Pre-existing conditions are health issues that a pet was diagnosed with before enrolling in pet insurance. The most common pre-existing conditions for pets are:

  • Dental disease: Dental disease is very common in pets and can lead to more serious health problems if not treated. Treatment for dental disease can be expensive, but pet insurance may help offset some of those costs.
  • Allergies: Allergies can cause a variety of symptoms in pets, from itchy skin to respiratory problems. Treatment for allergies can be costly but may be partially reimbursed by pet insurance policies.
  • Cancer: Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in dogs and cats, and treatments can be very expensive. Pet insurance can help offset some of those costs.

Pet insurance is a great investment that helps to ensure pets can get the treatment they need, even if they have a pre-existing condition. When shopping for pet insurance, it’s important to consider your pet’s health and the level of coverage needed to keep them happy and healthy.

  1. We have and it’s great…

  2. Trupanion has worked very well for us.

  3. How much is it.

    1. It depends on the pet, age, etc.

It is not the cheapest, but it has very generous benefits. We had two cats develop lymphoma at roughly the same time and Trupanion saved us tons of money.
