Hydroxychloroquine Has about 90 Percent Chance of Helping COVID-19 Patients

Ridgewood NJ, medical group says Hydroxychloroquine has about 90 percent chance of helping COVID-19 Patients:

In a letter to Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) presents a frequently updated table of studies that report results of treating COVID-19 with the anti-malaria drugs chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ, Plaquenil®).

To date, the total number of reported patients treated with HCQ, with or without zinc and the widely used antibiotic azithromycin, is 2,333, writes AAPS, in observational data from China, France, South Korea, Algeria, and the U.S. Of these, 2,137 or 91.6 percent improved clinically. There were 63 deaths, all but 11 in a single retrospective report from the Veterans Administration where the patients were severely ill.

The antiviral properties of these drugs have been studied since 2003. Particularly when combined with zinc, they hinder viral entry into cells and inhibit replication. They may also prevent overreaction by the immune system, which causes the cytokine storm responsible for much of the damage in severe cases, explains AAPS. HCQ is often very helpful in treating autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Additional benefits shown in some studies, AAPS states, is to decrease the number of days when a patient is contagious, reduce the need for ventilators, and shorten the time to clinical recovery.

Peer-reviewed studies published from January through April 20, 2020, provide clear and convincing evidence that HCQ may be beneficial in COVID-19, especially when used early, states AAPS. Unfortunately, although it is perfectly legal to prescribe drugs for new indications not on the label, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended that CQ and HCQ should be used for COVID-19 only in hospitalized patients in the setting of a clinical study if available. Most states are making it difficult for physicians to prescribe or pharmacists to dispense these medications.

As the letter to Gov. Ducey notes, “Many nations, including Turkey and India, are protecting medical workers and contacts of infected persons prophylactically. According to, deaths per million persons from COVID-19 as of Apr 27 are 167 in the U.S., 33 in Turkey, and 0.6 in India.”

After Morocco and Algeria began using HCQ, a trend break and sharp reduction in their COVID-19 case fatality rate occurred.

Vaccines and results of randomized double-blind controlled trials of new drugs are at best months away. But patients are dying now, while affordable, long-used drugs would be available except for government restrictions, AAPS states.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) has represented physicians of all specialties in all states since 1943. The AAPS motto is omnia pro aegroto, meaning everything for the patient.

  1. So how are the Dems and their mainstream media friends going to walk this one back?

  2. Per wikipedia:

“The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) is a conservative non-profit association founded in 1943. The group was reported to have about 5,000 members in 2014. The association advocates a range of scientifically discredited hypotheses, including the belief that HIV does not cause AIDS, that being gay reduces life expectancy, that there is a link between abortion and breast cancer, and that there is a causal relationship between vaccines and autism. It is opposed to the Affordable Care Act and other forms of universal health insurance.”

    1. you are seriously promoting the Affordable Care Act????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? LOL

  3. You are seriously giving creedence to an organization that believes HIV doesnt cause AIDS, abortion causes breast cancer, and vaccines cause autism? Grow up, James.

    1. no I dont give credence to Wikipedia , and again you are seriously promoting the Affordable Care Act????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? LOL

  4. the problem with Hydroxychloroquine is its very cheap and no one is going to get rich off it

  5. Seriously, instead of quoting Wiki look directly at their website. By the way you’re correct in your assessment but Wiki is misleading fairly often. In this case their spiel is pretty much reflective of AAPS

  6. “the problem with Hydroxychloroquine is its very cheap and no one is going to get rich off it
    Here, Fixed the fer ya…
the problem with Hydroxychloroquine is its very cheap and no one is going to get rich off it AND Trump publically supported it.

    1. Moderna , is not Hydroxychloroquine

  7. No, but I highlights that the attitude of the administration and friends is “how can I enrich my family during this crisis?” And “what’s in it for me?”

    1. are you that uneducated? Following Moncef Slaoui’s Friday appointment as a co-leader of the Warp Speed program, he’s set to sell about 155,000 shares in Moderna, according to press reports to avoid conflict of interest. They were worth an estimated $10 million Friday, but after Monday’s stock run-up on positive early data, they’re now valued at about $12.4 million. The SEC limits when and how he can sell his stock and he divested because he was appointed to the Warp Speed program , back to school for you .Unlike congressmen this has to be filed with the SEC well in advance .

  8. Every one of the Hydroxychloroquine naysayers and Trump haters will take this drug in a heartbeat if they get COVID-19.
…and you can take that to the bank.

  9. Everybody, keep in mind … what is a ‘study’. Anyone can call up ten doctors and say they published a ‘study’. No reputable pharmaceutical company will weigh in on effectiveness until there is data that comes from a randomized, double-blind placebo controlled study. Same standard that is used to get approval for any drug or a new indication. Same studies that will give data on side effects experienced by the patients enrolled in the clinical trial. Studies are ongoing and only a matter of time before results are published. BTW, not straightforward and ‘business as usual’ to enroll patients in clinical trials in a CoVid environment. Understandable that people are impatient but data are coming.

  10. Trump is 73 and morbidly obese. Let’s hope he doesn’t have a heart attack on this stuff…

    1. given he has 10 times the energy of most of the loser freeloader scammers in DC I wouldn’t worry much , but senile old drunks should probably stick with Botox

  11. We have several friends that take Plaquenil for arthritis, and have for years. One of them has had cancer, a stroke, gestational diabetes, and is generally a mess from a health perspective. She works in a kidney dialysis center everyday amongst many COVID positive patients and other employees. She’s probably the most high-risk individual on the planet, and has consistently tested negative…as have all the other people we know that have been on Plaquenil.

Sure, our friends are just anecdotal evidence, and not proof of anything…but were is the paper describing how many of the millions of people who routinely take hydroxychloroquine are COVID positive? I would wager that number is very low. All the media is reporting on is what happens if you give it to people at death’s door…that’s not fair.

    Two facts:
    1) The deadly cardiac side effects can happen when one takes BOTH Hydroxychloroquine and Zithromax (Z-pack), not Hydroxychloroquine alone. Z-Pack (and other related antibiotics) lengthens the QT time, which is a bad thing. Hydroxychloroquine makes this Z-Pack side effect worse.
    2) Hydroxychloroquine is uses primarily to PREVENT malaria, not to treat it once it gets bad (although its also used that way). Media reports of people not being helped by Hydroxychloroquine when given the drug after crashing, are not the whole story.

Don’t bury your head in the sand and blindly follow the media. There is a much bigger story out there that will hopefully see the light of day.

  12. if you are dumb enough to not take a drug your doctor recommends because you hate Trump , no one will miss you
