“I can assure you that this Council takes safety very seriously . . . “*

November 10,2014

Ridgewood NJ, Well why then Mr. Mayor would you and your fellow Council members vote to approve a plan to resurface Clinton Avenue that would require children to continue walking to and from the Ridge Elementary School in the middle of a street blocked only by two (2) portable “Do Not Enter” signs?

*Above quote by Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in response to a resident expressing disappointment with the Village Council’s decision to resurface Clinton Avenue without constructing sidewalks.

  1. Re-Elect Paul, Albert and Gynn. Help them finish what they started. Let not live in the past.

  2. Armed guards needed next — ? —

  3. I can’t wait to see & hear the positive spin – our plan is safer than sidewalks – Village Hall attaches to the Council’s no sidewalks vote. It should be one to remember.

  4. Virus that ‘makes humans more stupid’ discovered. Dom did you catch this from your buddy Paul

  5. Exactly how many drivers ignore the signs and travel on Clinton when the signs are up ?

  6. #5, well aside from deliveries, mail, homeowners/guests, landscapers I’d say not many. The larger point imo, is that a fairly private meeting was held with homeowners from the street and they gave pushback on the (seemingly sound) plan to put in sidewalks and open the street to traffic. I don’t understand why their concerns are more important than those of neighbor streets who bare the load instead.

But given the ridiculousness that is the Garber Square underpass I can only conclude the town cares very little for the residents that live on and around West Ridgewood Ave. How many bikes will be using that lane anyway to take away the right on red?

  7. We need to DEMAND a study of the bike lane.
Put up a 24 hour camera on that lane

I’m sure the AVERAGE Daily bike usage would be scant (excluding any stunts pulled by bike caravans, protests, etc to gin up the numbers)

  8. the bike lane is going to be a complete disaster…..just wait for the fallout…
the shit is gonna hit the fan….are these people really this stupid????

  9. Get out the black paint – problem solved – bike lane gone.

Funny how they followed the Village Engineer’s recommendation regarding the bike lane, but rejected his recommendation regarding the sidewalks on Clinton. What’s up with that?

  11. Exactly #10.

  12. The mayor talks in sound bytes. “We’re all about safety.” He just says things that sound good. And then his actions are idiotic.

one (the bike lane) agrees with the Mayor’s political agenda of “traffic calming” and “greenness” and “defeat the evil automobile”

while the other (sidewalks for clinton) was political pandering to quiet a potentiallly distracting legal battle with no potential political gain with the added bonus of being able to hide behind “maintaining the status quo”.

Pretty much why he’s still working on his political comeback… going on 9 years in the making…

  14. while the street may be closed during school days, there are many other times when vechiles are present, so why not install sidewalks to promote safety for all hours and days. Why should baby carriages and people in wheelchairs be required to endanger themselves by walking in the street. Is there any ADA requirements regarding sidewalks along streets wide enough to handle them?

  15. If I were silly enough to ride a bike through downtown Ridgewood, how am I supposed to get over to the bike lane. After I move past the underpass and am by the train station entrance, how do I cross back over without getting hit?

The council owes the residents an explanation. Thie time to put in sidewalks is when the road is beingworked on.

What were the pros and what were the cons. Most importantly, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.

  16. The village engineer was also the moron who said we needed to replace thousands of street signs because they needed to contain upper an lower case – another make-work waste of tax dollars. In my 2 decades in town, I struggle to remember seeing even a single biker go under the trestle while tens of thousands of cars have. The inmates are in full control of the asylum.

  17. Agreed #15 but when has this council every given a explanation to the resident.

  18. Fire the engineer

  19. And are these the same engineers claiming that hundreds of new apartments downtown will not have a negative impact on traffic?

Hey moron that was to comply with a state law/mandate.

  21. #7 sort of like the increase in wheelchairs that are seen on NJT after the construction of a $41 million station. Wasn’t the original budget $17 million? But I’m sure their study supported the expense.

  22. Vote for Paul, Albert and Gynn in 2016. Help then finish what the started.
Help them make the Village safe place

  23. I like the black paint idea……too funny.
It’s time to take matters into our own hands people….
Our “representatives” as they like to call themselfs, are nothing more than criminals……it’s time to take action.

  24. At this point, our Mayor and his 2 running mates have stepped on their own tails so many times that everything that they say or do comes off sounding agenda-driven or out-of-touch. They have such a lack of credibility that even if they somehow come up with a decent idea, it will be dismissed as just another in a series of self-serving initiatives.

This is the price that we all are paying for the complete lack of accountability that has surrounded this “team” from the beginning of their term. We deserve better than this pattern of high profile mis-steps followed by bristling at discussion of the mis-step followed by ignoring the mis-step hoping they will fade away. Unfortunately for these 3, too many of their constituents are intelligent community activists with long memories.

  25. RECALL TIME!
