“What’s wrong with this picture?
It’s time to call it a wrap.
after 7 years (3 in Hackensack and 4 in ridgewood) we have not turned a profit.
I had the “Field of Dreams” mentality “Build it and they shall come”
Not enough came. I am deeply saddened. Unless there is a patron out there who wants to support my art, we have no choice.
But there is a bright side. My daughter Dylan @platedbyd spun up her biz from working and learning with me. And that’s a home run.
Her and I went to sushi the other night and had pretty expensive meal. When the server brought the check, she looked at me and said “ I got this dad”. What a feeling to know your kid has found their way.
I am deeply proud of her.
Love u Dylan”

  3. Van Dyk’s, Kilwins, Häagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry’s, Ice Cream by Mike. It was too much for one village. Supply outweighed demand, and unfortunately Mike’s is not what the community chose.

  4. im surprised he didnt start a go fund me

  5. location location location

  6. All of these business are in buildings that pay real estate taxes.
What is the deal with the ice cream truck from Paterson with the loud music that comes here and siphons off business from our local shops..
Is it taxed, paid permitted, and or checked by board of health..
I’d bet the restaurants in town wouldn’t want food trucks driving around stealing business without the investment in real estate or taxes

  7. Sorry you had to close your business. Everything is a learning experience. You’ll find your way. Never give up and always count blessings. There are always many!

  8. Isn’t there a Maggie Mooz too?

  9. Last year my pregnant wife asked for ice cream around 9pm on a hot summer evening. To my surprise, Ice Cream by Mike was closed. Not sure what business model the owner was using, but being open at a reasonable hour in the summer seems important to the success of a business like this.

  10. So sorry to hear this — your ice cream was great! Thank you for being part of the Ridgewood community for the past several years. It is such a challenging time. Sending all best wishes to you and hope that you will find another venue to pursue your dream! Lovely story about your daughter – all the best to you and your family.

  11. $7.00 shakes. Family of five would have to drop around $40 with taxes. Crazy. Many of the other ice cream shops in town are wacky with their prices too.

  12. I’m sorry I just go to ShopRite. It’s very tough for these businesses to survive, look at the rent they pay.

  13. He didnt turn a profit for 3 years in Hackensack then got a new place in ridgewood for 4 years and didnt turn a profit there either? sorry mikey, dont confuse the income statement you claim to the irs with the one that is reality. not buying it bud.

  14. Lesson learned here….

People are willing to overpay for Cheese Boards, but not for Ice Cream.
