Maywood NJ, in a troubling incident on Tuesday morning, authorities launched an investigation into an armed robbery at Diamond Fantasy jewelers located at 42 West Pleasant Ave. in Maywood.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office issued a press release confirming that Maywood police received a 911 call reporting the robbery at 11:15 a.m. The response to the scene included assistance from the Paramus and Rochelle Park police departments, as well as detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the framework of mutual aid.
Details surrounding the robbery, such as the amount stolen from the store and the number of perpetrators involved, were not disclosed in the initial release.
“A reported armed robbery or attempted armed robbery of a jewelry store located on West Pleasant Avenue in Maywood triggered a massive police response to Maywood’s downtown shopping area late Tuesday morning, 04/23, as police from several agencies searched for three (3) armed suspects said to have been involved in the incident. Paramus PD received the initial 911 telephone call from a female store employee who said she was being “hurt” by multiple individuals, two (2) of whom had hand guns. Responding police units were unable to locate the three (3) suspects, one (1) who was said to have fled the scene on a motorcycle/scooter, the other two (2) on foot. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification collected physical evidence at the scene. Maywood officers canvassed the area for photographic/video evidence.”
