Paramus NJ, a major multi-vehicle collision late Monday morning at the intersection of Paramus Road and Red Mill Road in Paramus required four ambulances to transport injured victims to local hospitals. The crash, which occurred around 11 a.m., also temporarily shut down Paramus Road in both directions as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Details of the Incident
According to multiple 911 calls, the accident may have also involved a pedestrian, prompting a swift response from emergency services. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital assisted in evaluating and stabilizing the most seriously injured individuals.
Emergency responders from the Paramus Police Department, Fair Lawn Police, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene to manage the situation.
Secondary Crash Involves Ambulance
In an unusual turn of events, a commercial transport ambulance traveling northbound on Paramus Road was rear-ended moments after the initial collision. Fortunately, the ambulance was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported in this secondary crash.
Additional Damage
The crash caused significant damage to a traffic light assembly and its supporting pole, further complicating the scene and contributing to the closure of Paramus Road. Tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles and debris, allowing the roadway to eventually reopen.
Ongoing Investigation
The Paramus Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the crash. IAEP Local 201, representing the EMTs of Paramus EMS, was also present at the scene to support rescue operations.
