UPPER SADDLE RIVER — An Orthodox Jewish group that erected a controversial boundary known as an eruv is suing the borough to expand it farther, arguing doing so would accommodate Jewish families living near the New York-New Jersey border.

The amended federal suit, filed Thursday, claims the borough has unlawfully threatened the constitutional, civil, and contractual rights of the Bergen Rockland Eruv Association and five Orthodox Jewish residents of Rockland County by demanding the removal of the existing eruv and refusing to allow its expansion.

  1. Interesting that NONE of the plaintiffs reside in New Jersey.

  2. Lakewood NJ , Kiryas Joel, Crown Heights…don’t you people get it?
The Hisidam hate you and their using PC police to run YOU out of your own town. I’m racist? Anti-samitic? You bet I am…just as racist and anti- Christian, anti-black, anti everything that the Lubavitch are. WAKE UP.

  3. If the guidelines of an eruv root back to Exodus in the bible, 5-6 thousand years, give or take, then how were the boundaries of an eruv delineated? Back then until their creation, there was/were no:

    PVC tubing
    telephone poles
    electrical or telephone wire
    paved roads

There was a piece in The Record that said the streams, rivers, mountains, and other natural boundaries were used to mark the bounds of an eruv. Can’t this still be the case? Then, no government, utility, town or community needs to get involved.

  4. I declare the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, The Canadian Border and The Mexican Border Wall to be the boundaries of the eruv.
    Done.
