Ridgewood NJ, The New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run – Special Olympics made its way through Northwest Bergen County on Friday morning, 10/09. The photos included here were taken in Ridgewood and Midland Park. In light of the COVID-19 crisis, the Torch Run did not make stops at Ridgewood schools this year.
Every year, law enforcement officers in New Jersey exchange their uniforms for running gear as they carry the “Flame of Hope” throughout the Garden State into the Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games Opening Ceremony. After traveling more than 750 miles, this flame will eventually make its way to light the cauldron to signal the official start of the Summer Games, the largest competition event of the year. This fundraiser, one of the largest annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey events, not only raises funds but is a chance for the law enforcement community to show their support and admiration of our athletes.
