Trenton NJ, like former Democrat Alabama Governor George Wallace, NJ Governor Phill Murphy has chosen to make a stand . New Jersey is refusing to comply with a federal directive from the Trump administration aimed at dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in public education ie… government sanctioned racism and bigotry .
In a firm response released by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), the Murphy administration announced that it will not complete a newly issued federal certification form tied to DEI restrictions — a move seen as part of the Trump administration’s broader campaign to reshape public school policy.
📄 Background: A Controversial Federal Certification
On April 3, the U.S. Department of Education sent a certification form to state education leaders. The form requires states to confirm that their public schools comply with the Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard Supreme Court decision and refrain from implementing DEI-related programs that may be interpreted as discriminatory.
The Trump administration warned that failure to comply could impact federal financial aid, which includes critical funding for low-income students and children with disabilities.
New Jersey Pushes Back
State Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer declined to sign the form and instead submitted a letter reaffirming New Jersey’s compliance with existing federal anti-discrimination laws — but also asserting the state’s right to uphold inclusive education practices.
“The NJDOE remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that every student in the State of New Jersey has equal access to educational opportunities and the freedom to attend school in a safe and supportive environment,” Dehmer said.
New Jersey joins at least 15 other states in standing against the federal directive, emphasizing that DEI programs are essential to fostering inclusive, safe, and high-achieving learning environments.
What’s at Stake?
New Jersey schools currently receive about $1.2 billion in federal funding annually. These funds are essential for:
-
Supporting students with disabilities
-
Aiding low-income families
-
Promoting educational equity across districts
While the Trump administration’s order threatens to link this funding to new compliance measures, New Jersey officials remain confident that they are already following all necessary civil rights laws — and will not sacrifice their commitment to diversity and inclusion.
A National Movement
With more states joining the resistance, this issue is quickly becoming a flashpoint in the national education debate. Advocates argue that eliminating DEI efforts would strip students of vital support systems, especially in diverse and underserved communities.
New Jersey’s stand reinforces the idea that equity in education is not negotiable — and that states have the authority to resist federal overreach when it threatens student wellbeing.

Good riddance
(i had to chuckle when she was one of the losers who thought their pal Bernie Madoff has the inside track.,)
Ridgewood Public Schools wants to be the face of the resistance. The community school model, the DEI budgeting, curriculum development, the reshaping of their administrative team, the hiring practices that DEI groups are involved with, and their “pursuit” of excellence could not be any clearer.
The district powers have decided to align itself with a political ideology instead of educating children.
And you pay 125 million a year!
You are rich and stupid!!!!
Weinberg is still in politics? What a destructive pos.
by advising Ali Harwin, who is working her way back up into politics by working in the public schools. She’s a DEI chair in an elementary school and the Elon Musk advisor to the district’s Vision 2030 rebrand.
The Community School model that the district is pushing is very heavily favored by democratic politicians.
The Community School model will likely land Harwin a seat on the Board of Education or on village council, since this school model favors collaboration between politics, school boards, and special interest groups.
The district rebrand is about power, not your children’s education.
So every hire, it’s fair to assume that there was someone better suited for the position who was passed over.
Two recent additions to administration are from Paterson Public Schools.
Where are new teachers coming from?
Likely MSU, a university that has growing connections to critical theory practitioners.
Public schools are over. They are now indoctrination factories.
If Ridgewood continues with their new Community School model then they will be leading the “pursuit” of its destruction.
