West Trenton, N.J. – The Super Bowl is one of America’s most anticipated sporting events of the year. Whether you are hosting a party or traveling to watch the game with family and friends this weekend, we urge everyone to enjoy the game responsibly.

The big game is only two days away and as everyone prepares this weekend, the New Jersey State Police will have increased patrols statewide to target dangerous driving behaviors.

In addition to normal patrols, the New Jersey State Police will have more than 40 additional troopers deployed state-wide from Saturday, February 1 to Monday, February 3. Troopers will focus on DWI, aggressive driving, seatbelt usage, cell phone violations, and motorists exhibiting signs of distracted driving.

“A good coach always prepares and has a game plan before each game,” said Colonel Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police. “If you plan to drink alcohol, make sure you take the necessary steps so you can protect yourself, your family and other motorists from tragedy on the road this weekend.”

Although only one team will come out on top on Sunday, here are some tips everyone can win with.

Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast. Pace yourself – eat; take breaks; alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.

Designate your sober driver before the party begins, and give that person your vehicle keys.

Use an available car service or ride sharing application if you don’t have a designated driver.

Remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk. Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive impaired.

Take a stand against drunk driving this weekend and don’t get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. Enjoy the game, make responsible decisions, and get home safely.
