Governor Phil Murphy emphasized the importance of providing alternative travel solutions:

“While we work around the clock to repair the roadway, we are providing every possible travel alternative, including NJ TRANSIT trains. By offering these discounts, we will help get vehicles off the road and give residents another way to get to work or school and back home safely.”

Federal and state officials are working together to expedite repairs. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy highlighted the importance of I-80 for regional mobility:

“I-80 is a critical artery for both local communities and the broader region. USDOT has brought in national geotechnical engineering experts to assist NJDOT in identifying the issue and reopening the highway safely.”

Congressman Tom Kean Jr. praised NJ TRANSIT’s efforts, stating:

“I previously called for an alternative commuting option, and I’m pleased to see NJ TRANSIT stepping up to offer fare discounts. This will provide some relief to affected residents as we work on a long-term fix.”
