Ramsey NJ, Republican Congressional nominee Frank Pallotta today called on his opponent, career politician Democrat Josh Gottheimer to stand up for the tens of thousands of well-meaning, concerned parents in northern New Jersey and denounce the leadership of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) for calling them “extremists” in a vile ad that recently blanketed the airwaves. Even after public outrage forced the NJEA’s leadership to stop running the ad, Congressman Gottheimer remained silent while proudly accepting their endorsement.

Hackensack NJ, the mud slinging continues at the Bergen GOP . While Republicans picked up seats in the 2020 election all over New Jersey ,the Bergen GOP stumbled and it would seem that winning Republican candidates in Bergen were those that distanced themselves from the Bergen County Republican organization . Lets face it if Republicans don’t win big this year , the Bergen GOP should just disband .

Ridgewood NJ, The 2020 race for Congress in the Fifth Congressional District of New Jersey is shaping up to be a very competitive campaign in the 2020 election.  The Ridgewood Blog has obtained a poll commissioned by Assemblyman Bob Auth showing the deep vulnerability of incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer. Republican candidate John McCann, the 2018 Republican nominee, is currently leading Gottheimer in the race 40.4% to 38.9%. McCann is seeking a rematch this year setting up a very competitive race in the 5th Congressional district if he selected as the Republican nominee.

Assemblyman Auth briefly entered the Republican contest for the 5th district seat but decided against a candidacy this year citing the need for Republican Party unity and the challenges of organizing a district wide campaign in less than 200 days.

Are the Democrats attempting to pick the winner of the Republican primary for Congress in the 5th District?

Gottheimer Supporters Now Backing John McCann

February 25,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ , The Lonegan for Congress campaign is questioning if Democrats have infiltrated the ranks of the Republican Party in the 5th District now that a prominent New Jersey family with ties to Democrat Josh Gottheimer is publicly supporting John Mcann in the Congressional race.

Harry Shortway is the Mayor of Vernon Township, in Sussex County. His father, also named Harry Shortway, is the Mayor of Midland Park, in Bergen County.

Harry Shortway of Vernon was the most prominent Republican in Sussex County to endorse liberal Democrat Josh Gottheimer for Congress. His father, who held a patronage position with the Democrat Sheriff of Bergen County, recently told GOP officials that he too was supporting Democrat Gottheimer.

On Sunday, February 25th, the Shortways will be hosting a campaign event for John McCann’s congressional campaign committee. The event will be held at the family business: Shortway’s Barn, in Hawthorne. McCann claims to be a loyal Republican, but why are two Republican supporters of the Democrat incumbent supporting him?

McCann was also in the employ of the Bergen County Democrat Sheriff Michael Saudino until announcing his run for Congress last September.

Reader answers “Is this the same Steve Lonegan that was one of the most anti-Trump people during the campaign?”

"Steve" Lonegan

“Is this the same Steve Lonegan that was one of the most anti-Trump people during the campaign?”
Yes… but not what you seem to be implying.
.
Lonegan was pro Ted Cruz (that’s why he was “against” Trump), Now that Trump is in he fully supports him even though Trump wasn’t his first choice in the primaries.
Lonegan is a solid guy if you believe in Republican values like tax cutting, etc and he aligns with Trumps agenda.
.
If you are a supporter of the Trump agenda (which it seems like you are) then a Lonegan victory would help implement it.
If you are a McCain, McConnel, Murkowski, Graham, Flake type Republican then Lonegan might not be for you in the primary.
If you are a Democrat then it does not matter who the Republicans put up since you’ll be voting “D” anyway…

Lonegan Campaign Announces Book Signing with Lewandowski and Bossie

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ,  Lonegan for Congress today announced a fundraiser with former Trump Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski and former Deputy Campaign Manager David Bossie that will be held on Wednesday, January 31 the Bishop House in Saddle River.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Corey and Dave to New Jersey in support of Mayor Lonegan’s campaign to take back the Fifth District,” Campaign Manager Michael D. Byrne said. “Conservatives across the district and across the country are excited about Steve’s momentum and are uniting behind him.”

The event will include a book-signing of their new tome, “Let Trump Be Trump: The Inside Story of His Rise to the Presidency.”

“The Fifth District is a tremendous location for this event because its a fundamentally conservative district — a district that President Trump won in 2016,” Byrne said. “Corey and Dave were instrumental in helping President Trump win the presidency and carry places like North Jersey where the voters are fed-up with big government, high taxes, and burdensome regulations.”

Byrne said Lonegan’s campaign to lower taxes, create jobs, enact term limits and curtail federal overreach is drawing increased attention and support within the Fifth District, around New Jersey, and across the country.

“More and more people are learning just how out of touch Josh Gottheimer is with his district and how vulnerable he is,” Byrne said. “Josh may have eeked out a win in 2016, but he won’t be able to win again against Mayor Lonegan who already won the Fifth District against the Democrat Party’s greatest so-called rising star, Cory Booker.”

Byrne said that Gottheimer is just as liberal as Booker and that his attempts to masquerade as a moderate are failing.

“Mayor Lonegan’s race will be one of the most high profile challenger races in the country,” Byrne said. “In the New York market, it will pit Mayor Lonegan — New Jersey’s most accomplished conservative crusader for the past two decades — against left-wing ideologue Josh Gottheimer who opposes tax cuts, ending Obamacare, and term limits. Mayor Lonegan will be President Trump’s greatest ally in draining the swamp and Making America Great Again.”

John McCann Announces His Candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District

2John McCann Announces His Candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District

November 30,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Paramus NJ ,  Surrounded by his family and hundreds of supporters at VFW Post 6699 in Paramus, John McCann announced his candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District.

John J. McCann is a conservative leader who has successfully fought for conservative principles at every level of government. A resident of Oakland, McCann is General Counsel to the New Jersey Sheriffs Association and former Cresskill Councilman. In addition, John served as Counsel to the Bergen County Sheriff and he was involved in the effort to defeat HillaryCare in the United States Senate.

“I am working to protect the American Dream for people who work hard and play by the rules to help create jobs and opportunity for all Americans, and to safeguard the freedoms that are under attack by liberal politicians in Washington,” said McCann.

A practicing attorney, John McCann advises Sheriffs across the state on both legal and policy issues as General Counsel to the New Jersey Sheriffs Association. During his career, McCann has been a legal advisor for many Chiefs of Police, as well as serving as General Counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation in New York City. In 2010, McCann helped elect the first Bergen County Republican Sheriff in nine years and then he served as General Counsel for the Sheriff of Bergen County, where he played an integral role keeping the office’s budget below the rate of inflation. John was credited with saving taxpayers over a million dollars in inmate medical spending, while at the same time drafting and implementing a new family leave policy that dramatically reduced overtime costs. Most significantly, he is recognized for shepherding through a legal strategy that eliminated a redundant law enforcement agency in Bergen County, saving taxpayers millions of dollars.

“Voters are tired of words without action. We need to elect people who have a track record of actual success,” said McCann. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to protect taxpayers, keep our community safe and defend the Constitution.”

As a candidate for office in 1995, McCann first proposed a 2% property tax cap for New Jersey and, while serving on the town council in Cresskill, John fought against 10% municipal pay increases. On the town council, John worked to build a recreation center without any taxpayer money, which continues to operate solely through the fees it generates. As a Fellow working in the United States Senate in 1993-94, John McCann created the chart that helped shift public opinion in opposition to President Clinton’s proposed HillaryCare legislation.

“My campaign is to create a more affordable future for families in New Jersey,” McCann said. “The liberal agenda pushed by lifelong bureaucrat Josh Gottheimer isn’t right for New Jersey, and isn’t right for the people of the 5th congressional district.”

“John McCann is the right candidate to bring the republicans back in control of the 5th district,” said Ginnie Littell, Former Republican State Chairman.
John and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 27 years. They raised their two daughters in Cresskill and now reside in Oakland. Sharon is a high-risk obstetrician who has delivered thousands of babies who may not have made it to term. She has repeatedly received New York Magazine’s “New York’s Best Doctors” award in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Their daughters currently attend Georgetown University and Fordham University. In 1981, while on duty working for Brinks, John’s father was shot in a holdup perpetrated by people associated with domestic terrorism.

Garrett Highlights Important Issues for 2016 General Election Candidate Debates

House Budget Panel Holds Hearing to Receive Views on Fiscal 2012
June 9,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Congressman Scott Garrett (R-NJ) sent a letter today to his Democrat general election opponent regarding debates for the 2016 general election.

“I look forward to a campaign season filled with great debate about the best solutions for the future of our district and our country,” Garrett wrote.

Democrat Josh Gottheimer, a political insider capitalizing on his Clinton-family connections in order to bankroll his campaign, has yet to outline a substantive platform. This leads many in the Fifth District to assume that he is merely a mouthpiece for Hillary Clinton’s agenda.

In contrast, Congressman Scott Garrett’s platform includes the following issues that are high priorities for the people of the Fifth District:

Creating Jobs. A strong economy is a job-creating economy. When hard-working Americans are struggling to find work, it’s a sign our nation needs to get its economic house in order—and paralyzing small businesses with burdensome regulations isn’t the answer. Scott Garrett has worked consistently to advance economic growth and job creation, including ensuring America’s small businesses—the backbone of our economy—have the tools and resources they need to keep employees and create new jobs.

Stopping Reckless Spending. Our federal government’s spending over the last several years has ballooned out of control. Our national debt stands at an all-time high of more than $17 trillion. Scott Garrett recognizes that every dollar Washington spends is a dollar first earned by taxpayers. Since first going to Congress, Scott has worked tirelessly to end irresponsible spending, allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money, and force the government to live within a budget, just like taxpayers do.
Defending Our Nation. The threats against our nation are real. Scott Garrett has worked to make sure our men and women in uniform have the tools they need to accomplish the mission of keeping America safe. He firmly believes that before any troops are sent into harm’s way, the mission must be clear, and he has led efforts to guarantee our nation’s military will not be sent into war without Congressional authorization.Garrett continued his letter by emphasizing the importance of principled leadership in Washington, starting, “Throughout my time as the representative for the Fifth District, I have fought for policies to grow our economy, create jobs and strengthen our national security. Our county needs a representative who knows that leadership means fighting for the interests of the Fifth District, regardless of pressure from special interests in Washington.”

Finally, Garrett committed to being in touch regarding the scheduling of debates in the future, ending the letter by stating, “Once my constituent services calendar is finalized for this fall, I will be in touch about finding an opportunity for us to appear in a public forum to debate ideas.”
