Ridgewood NJ, The Men’s Fellowship of Emmanuel will sponsor an Italian Festival Dinner on Saturday, April 28th, at 5:30 pm in Heritage Hall of Emmanuel Baptist Church, 14 Hope Street, Ridgewood, NJ.

The menu will feature a variety of traditional Italian dishes and desserts. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children and can be purchased by calling the Church office at 201-444-7300 on or before April 24th. All funds raised will be used to support Mission Projects of the Men’s Fellowship including Good Shepherd Mission in Paterson, Center for Food Action, and Social Services of Ridgewood and Vicinity.

Emmanuel Baptist Church, founded in 1891, is celebrating its 126th Anniversary Year and continues to maintain a tradition of community outreach. The Men’s Fellowship of Emmanuel Baptist Church will hold Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 21st at 5:30pm in Heritage Hall. Traditional German food and German music will be featured. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. Proceeds will be used by the men to fund mission activities which include supporting Good Shepherd Mission in Paterson and Bergen County Housing Center in Hackensack. Tickets can be ordered by calling the church office at 201-444-7300 on or before Wednesday, October 18th.

Emmanuel Baptist Church partnered with Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital’s annual Adopt a Pet Day to offer complimentary pet blessings on Sunday, September 17th 12:00 noon-4:00pm rain or shine at Emmanuel on 14 Hope Street, next to Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital. Pet blessings will take place in the front of the church in the inside foyer. Pastor Ken Gill will oversee the blessings and a complimentary certificate will be included with the pet blessing. Dinners are offered the third Tuesday of each month. Dinner of pasta, meatballs, sausage, salad, dessert and coffee will be served at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall, which is on the Lower Level at Emmanuel. The suggested donation is $4 per adult and $2 per child.

Since there is limited space, it is suggested that you reserve your seat by calling the church office at 201-444-7300. If you are unable to reach the church office, please contact Marilyn Clark at 201-391-4720.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke personally supervised all uniformed and plainclothes officers who were assigned to provide security at an “Anti Hatred/Anti Violence” candlelight vigil held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 14 Hope Street, Ridgewood on Wednesday evening, 08/16.

The candlelight vigil was held on the lawn of Emmanuel Baptist Church and started at 7:30 p.m . It was an opportunity to reach out to your friends and neighbors .

Attendees held candles and listened intently as leaders representing many faiths  spoke up and offered prayers of peace .Among the speakers were , Rev. Nolan Palsma of the Upper Ridgewood Community Church,and Pastor Joanne Van Sant, of Friends to Friends Community Church. Ridgewood Mayor Susan Knudsen also spoke.

The Ridgewood Police reported “No” incidents during the peaceful assembly of several hundred local residents. Not really sure one would have reasonably expected any.  In addition to Chief Luthcke, at least five (5) other Ridgewood Police members were observed in active service during the event.

Emmanuel holds School Supply Collection for the Center for Food Action

Ridgewood NJ, Emmanuel Baptist Church’s Mission Committee is collecting school supplies for needy children in this area for distribution by the Center for Food Action (CFA). Marble composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, loose leaf paper, glue sticks, highlighters, pencils, pens, crayons, colored pencils, 2-pocket folders, 3-ring binders, and backpacks are items being collected.

Donations are accepted in the collection box located under the Mission bulletin board. Contact 201-444-7300 for details and a list of preferred items needed. The collection will continue until the middle of August. Visit www.emmanuelridgewood.org for more information.

Ridgewood NJ, The Uncoupling Support Group will be offered to the community again on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, July 13th and July 27th respectively, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ridgewood, NJ from 7:30- 9:00pm. The purpose of the group is to create a supportive environment for anyone who is going through a relationship breakup, a separation, or divorce. Dr. Gill holds a Master of Divinity from Anderson School of Theology, a Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary, and has over 20 years of experience in family systems therapy and marriage and family counseling. He has extensive experience in the formation and facilitation of similar support groups.

Ridgewood NJ, A “Simple Soup Supper” will be offered on Thursday, April 13th at 6:30pm followed by an ecumenical service at 7:30pm for Maundy (Holy) Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ridgewood, NJ.
The three congregations in Ridgewood that will participate in the ecumenical service are First Methodist Church, Christ Episcopal Church, and Emmanuel Baptist Church. The service will feature a joint choir, communion, and foot washing.

Ridgewood ‘s Emmanuel Baptist Invites All Children to Participate in a Blanket Making Session for Project Linus

Ridgewood NJ, Emmanuel invites children of all ages to join in a one hour blanket making session on March 12th at 10:30am-11:30am in Heritage Hall as part of the Sunday School Christian Education program. No sewing is required. Children’s scissors are used in making the blankets. Contact the Church Office at 201-444-7300 or via email at office@emmanuelridgewood.org to sign up.

Leslie Maltz Taylor, a representative from Project Linus, will lead the one hour blanket making session during Sunday school at Emmanuel. Emmanuel will donate the completed blankets to Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides homemade blankets to children in need.

Women of Emmanuel are supplying the soft plush material for the blanket making project. Marilyn Clark, head of Women of Emmanuel, stated, “We are excited to bring this blanket making session to Emmanuel. With the use of children’s scissors, it is easy to do. Anyone can do it.”

Ridgewood NJ, Emmanuel Baptist Church will be offering a new parenting support group, “The Parenting Village,” with the first session starting on Wednesday, February 8th at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Peace Lounge. Parents with children of all ages are invited to attend. The group will begin by studying Dr. Gordon Neufeld and Dr. Gabor Mate’s book, “Hold On to Your Kids” (2006). Childcare will be provided free of charge at Emmanuel. Light refreshments will be served.

Emmanuel will be purchasing the reference material for this first group meeting. In order to determine how many books to be ordered, please RSVP to the Church office at 201-444-7300 or on the Facebook event link at www.facebook.com/EBCRidgewood/. The purpose of the parenting support group is to create a supportive, loving community for parents to discuss fears and challenges they are facing as parents, help parents maintain connection with their children, and to establish a strong network for parents to call upon to help and guide each other. Possible topics of discussion include living in the moment with children, modern day challenges of parenting, limiting technology, and how to maintain positive connections with children in a world that pulls them away.

Heidi Ehman, founder and facilitator of “The Parenting Village” support group, stated, “In response to the fervent need of virtually every parent we meet, we have decided to provide a safe space for them to ask any question and share their experience.”

Ms. Ehman, a life-long Hawthorne resident, has served on Emmanuel’s Education Board and believes strongly in the philosophy of Attachment Parenting. She is a decorative painter who homeschools her daughter in the Waldorf Method. Recently, she has been pursuing a teacher’s certificate in handwork.

Ridgewood NJ, Emmanuel Baptist Church will hold a forum on the quest for racial justice and human rights on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. in the Peace Lounge following the monthly non-fundraising Community Pasta Dinner. Forum participants will view Tim Wise’s Video (Part 2): “White Like Me: Race, Racism and White Privilege in America” and discuss civil rights in America.Donald Wheeler, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Sociology and Global Studies, Kean University, and Senior Advisor, New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability, will lead the discussion. Pre-registration for the Peace and Justice Forum is not required.
