Ridgewood PSE&G Glen Avenue Update – August 31,2016

PSEG_truck_theridgewoodblog

Dear Nattering nabobs of negativism,
I just wanted to provide you with an end-of-August update on the large PSE&G Energy Strong Gas Glen Avenue modernization project that has been periodically causing traffic delays in the Village  throughout the summer.  The good news is that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the major infrastructure work will  be done by this Friday.  The other good news is that the planned work has been completed on East Glen so there should be no detour issues impacting Travell School.

Over the next two days, the intersection of Monroe and Glen will be closed while work is being done; this will cause a significant detour and associated traffic problems.   Please try to avoid this route as much as possible.

In the next several weeks, through late September, individual service line hook-ups will be scheduled with homeowners along West Glen.  These hook-ups could result in intermittent lane closures.

Thanks for your patience during this period – we have been fortunate that,  in working closely with PSE&G,  they were able to complete the most impactful part of this project within the summer months. We are also fortunate that this major PSE&G project of modernization to our gas lines enhances the safety, cleanliness and reliability of the services that we rely on.

We are almost at the finish line!

Best,

Dear Nattering nabobs of negativism,

As you know, PSE&G is working in Ridgewood on a significant effort to replace gas mains enhancing service to our residents.  (Please see attached PSE&G flyer for more details and explanation of the project.) The recent work that has been done on and around Glen Ave. to date has involved partial shutdown of streets and detours that have resulted in some traffic delays.

Starting tomorrow – Friday, July 8th  –  W. Glen Ave.  will be closed between Oak St. and Upper Blvd. from 7am to 4pm Monday through Friday for approximately 2 weeks. This will have an impact on traffic traveling west and east through Ridgewood (see map below). Traffic will be diverted to the Franklin Ave. underpass for cars. Trucks will be diverted to Wyckoff Ave. in Waldwick due to height restrictions.

It is very possible that we will see some significant delays in the Garber Square area including the feeder streets of W. Ridgewood Ave., Franklin Ave. and Godwin Ave. area due to this detour.  I would encourage residents to try alternate routes, for example using the underpass near the intersection of  Ackerman Ave./Broad St.

Approximately six police officers, hired and paid for by PSE&G, will be deployed to critical intersections to assist the traffic flow.  Thankfully, we are in the midst of summer where traffic is generally lighter, but I wanted to give you this heads-up so that perhaps you can plan around this construction work.  I appreciate your understanding and patience while we get through this public utility improvement.

Best,

PSE&G Press Release:

New Jersey’s gas and electric infrastructure is on its way to becoming stronger and more resilient thanks to approval of PSE&G’s Energy Strong Program. This $1.22 billion program will allow the utility to proactively protect and strengthen its electric and gas systems against severe weather damage like the state experienced during Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy.

As part of the Energy Strong program, PSE&G will make the following investments during the next few years:

• $620 million to protect, raise or relocate 29 switching and substations that were damaged by water in recent storms.

• $350 million to replace and modernize 250 miles of low-pressure cast iron gas mains in or near flood areas.

• $100 million to create redundancy in the system, reducing outages when damage occurs.

• $100 million to deploy smart grid technologies to better monitor system operations to increase our ability to more swiftly deploy repair teams.

• $50 million to protect five natural gas metering stations and a liquefied natural gas station affected by Sandy or located in flood zones.
