Kasschau Shell Concert Series wraps up successful season

AUGUST 14, 2015

Another exciting summer at the Kasschau Shell

To the Editor:

Thursday, Aug. 6 was the final performance of the Kasschau Memorial Shell Concert Series. It was an exciting performance of gospel music by Mack Brandon and the Connection. The audience joined in on a number of songs and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

I must thank the generous sponsors who support this exceptional summer series. Our performers have appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the New Jersey PAC. They are artists who have performed on Broadway and played in pit orchestras of Broadway shows. We have listened to the beautiful voices of Mark and Christie McVey, Greg Caldarone and Andy Cooney and danced to rock music and the big band sound. We have sung along with Bobby Byrne and marveled at the virtuosity of Bucky Pizzarelli. Their level of professional experience is incredible and all one had to do was bring a chair or blanket and head to the shell. I encourage all to look for our flyers next year and join the fun.

Thanks go to the wonderful and helpful people at the Parks and Recreation Department. Nancy, Marge, Tim and Mary helped make everything work smoothly. Jared Montgomery is an exceptional soundman, and he and Jack Stofka, his assistant, did an outstanding job. Thanks also goes to The Ridgewood News who gave us excellent coverage and thus encouraged attendances.

Our sponsors are community-minded and generous contributors who make Ridgewood special. Most have been our supporters for many years and deserve recognition:

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill, Backyard Living, Boiling Springs Savings Bank, BRANDfog, Care One at the Cupola and Care One at Ridgewood Avenue, Chyten Educational Services, Clemente Orthodontics, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Corp., Columbia Bank, Daily Treat Family Restaurant, Feeney Funeral Home, Hudson City Savings Bank, One Shop Wireless Inc., Park West Tavern, Ridgewood A.M. Rotary Club, Warren Boardman D.M.D., Tarvin Realtors, Ulrich Inc., The Valley Hospital, Valley National Bank, Van Dyk Health Care Inc., West Ridgewood Dental Professionals, Wostbrock Home & Design and of course, the Village of Ridgewood.

Final recognition must go to the Kasschau Memorial Shell Committee. They are a convivial and dependable group who give their time to bring music to Ridgewood. It’s a wonderful committee to be part of and if you are interested contact the Stable.

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

The 57th annual free summer Entertainment Under the Stars concert series kicked off on Thursday at the Kasschau Memorial Band Shell.

“Tunes in June,” featuring groups from Ridgewood High School, was the first show of the season.

“It’s been a tradition that it starts off with the RHS band,” said Jo Delaney, chairman of the Kasschau Memorial Shell Committee. “This has been going on for 50 years and they’ve been associated for forever.”

The Orpheus Club, The Ridgewood Choral and The Ridgewood Concert Band are also regular performers.

“These three groups have been part of the history since beginning,” Delaney said.

This year’s lineup is “an eclectic group of musical experiences by professional artists,” Delaney said. “We’re really across the board. There’s something for everybody.”

“We tried to have all sorts of groups so people have all kinds of music to enjoy and hear something new,” Delaney said. “Expose yourself to something you haven’t heard before and open yourself up to music.”
