Ridgewood NJ, looks like Ridgewood’s Central Business District is facing a parking-apocalypse this week when both the Hudson lot and Cottage Place lot are closed as of Monday August 19th. Resident should brace for longer parking times and more congested road ways .

Ridgewood NJ, the Village has installed new parking kiosks on North Broad Street (on the Dunkin Donuts side), which use a touch screen. We are hoping that this will make it easier for those parking to be able to pay at the kiosk, as it is more intuitive. In the next couple of weeks, the kiosk on the train station side of North Broad Street will also have a touch screen.
The Village is also placing the video on the Village website.

With all this noise about parking what happens to an individual with a handicapped card or plate? Because of the EXTREMELY limited amount of handicapped parking, where are we supposed to go? Particularly since many of us don’t have a download app on our phones?
WHAT??? I was at that meeting and that is not what Councilman Hache said. He was supporting a reduction in the parking fee at Cottage Pl for 60 spots to be set aside for employee parking. It was just for those spots only. He suggested reducing the rate to 25 cents. It was a suggestion in order to get employees to use that lot instead of parking on the street, which will open up spots for customers. And yes, it could also help some of the employees who are minimum wage earners. The free parking was suggested by somebody else.
Editors Note: From what we have heard ,there are over 700(?) employees in the Central Business District so employee parking represents a major issue .Frankly we think employees should be parking at some kind of discounted rate , or free if they park in some distant out of the way spots. We also think meter rates should be lowered but meter times should be extended later into the evening say 9pm ,to give dinners a chance to participate and take some of burden off CBD shoppers .
We ALL know that there is ample parking. Even Sonenfeld says so. The problem is that PROMISES WERE MADE to certain key people that a garage would be built near their properties and businesses in the business district. What Aronsohn, Saraceno, Pucciarelli, Vaggianos, Sonenfeld, Hauck and company failed to consider is that the town if full of very smart people. And the people rose up and ran a petition drive and stopped the insanity. Bye Bye Garage.
“Residents will have to pay for the Mayor and Village Managers legal fees.” TRUE. Which begs the question, why would Roberta, Paul et. al do something so blatantly out of step with the law so as to cause taxpayers to spend money to fight them legally, in addition to taxpayers footing any legal bills they have? Additionally, where is Matt Rogers? The bond counsel has been providing legal advice on these matters to date…why has he not weighed in?
This is a horrible precedent to set for our Village…I would think residents would be outraged if the Village was promoting one presidential candidate over another on the website. Thank you to Gail, Lorraine and everyone else involved with these efforts. It is sad it came to this, there was no need for Paul, Roberta etc to go this far as they had a lot of support on their side, but now everything is tainted.
Ridgewood NJ, with the announcement that the citizens group has gathered enough signatures to force a binding referendum on BCIA funding of the garage . Mayor Paul Aronsohn has already announced his intention to go back to Village financing for the project .
With a council election just around the corner it makes sense to postpone any action on the garage until the next council . Recent verbal and physical attacks on residents have crossed the line and the public no longer feels comfortable with the current council. Lets face it ,the entire project is now suspect and the public has lost all confidence and trust in the current Village Council.
Key information like the Maser report appears to have been withheld from the public and some council members as well as the conclusions in the Walker report seem to have been misinterpreted, with the reality being the garage has little chance of paying for itself. The projects design and financial impact on the village , as well as increases in parking rates appear to be left to chance by the current council majority .
Other projects are waiting in the wings , like the high density housing for the central business district, negotiations with Valley Hospital and the Ridgewood Water suit all of which will force major changes to the Village of Ridgewood .
Common sense should prevail and all major decisions about the Village and Village business should be postponed until the new council takes over in June and restores the public’s confidence in the Village council’s ability to represent the residents of Ridgewood .

For several months our Mayor kept bragging about how well his discussions about funding a parking garage were going with the Bergen County Improvement Authority’s chair.
What happened Paul? No word of late regarding cash from the County. Did they say no, or have you just forgotten to update the public?
