Ridgewood NJ, at the March 22 Village Council work session, the five council members agreed to move forward with a resolution supporting the Green Amendment which, hopefully, will go to a state-wide vote to change the State Bill of Rights. As Deputy Mayor Perron reported, this amendment would provide citizens of the Garden State with the inalienable right to potable water, clean air, a clean and healthy environment, the preservation of natural and healthy habitats, and the scenic qualities of the historic environment. Perron went on to explain that if the Council moves forward with this, it will give a message to the State that Ridgewood thinks this is a good idea.

Ridgewood NJ, immediately after her election, Winograd is painting a much different picture — one of dubious, straightforward deception. Pre-election Winograd promised a youth athletic field and walking path at Schedler Park. At the last Village Council Meeting, Post election Winograd announced her plan to level Schedler Park with a massive adult 90ft field, permanent lights and the largest netting possible.

Ridgewood NJ after a log commenter called the Mayors performance at the candidates Night Debate , “horrible, shrieking mess. I will never vote for Knudsen. I did, twice, but never again. She has disintegrated in the last year.” Another reader defended the Mayor:
“It would have been hard not to feel combative when your work of nearly a decade was being attacked with blatant lies and false claims while a sea of planted supporters of your opponents glared at you, laughed at you, and yes, openly booed. Horrible.”

“The root of the problem is the failure of our Village Council to distinguish between their Narrow interests and the underlying drivers of value for Village residents. Their self-interests are reflections of important aspects of Village business; but however important and useful for Village planning, they should not be used in a self-congratulatory list of “accomplishments” as surrogates for the underlying value of the Council’s work. Genuine value creation fur residents requires a Council culture that compels our Governing body to pursue projects that promise to improve life for all residents, whether it be property tax reduction or paving our third world roads – while not treating their own narrow self-interests (Schedler, Elks HQ, Hudson Garage) as ends in themselves.”

The following info was taken from the 2010 “Open Space Committee Report to The Village Council”: The Village has been highly successful in securing state and county Green Acres Funds of approx. 5.1 million dollars toward the 10 million dollar acquisition cost of the three properties: Habernickel, Schedler and expansion of Citizens Park. We still remain eligible for additional grants in the amount of 2.1 million dollars for the properties. At a previous council meeting at the time, former VM James Ten Hove said the price of a large field at Schedler would be about 9 million dollars. The council dismissed any development there due to the cost and lack of funds. When I hear people say we paid over 7 million dollars of tax payers money for the Schedler property, I think they must be referring to ” alternative facts.”

An open letter to the Village Council re tonight’s VC Meeting. I cannot attend as I am on a business trip, but have written an open letter to the members of the Council. Please attend if you can, whether you agree with me or not. The key thing is for the Ridgewood Residents to be aware of all that is going on at the Council level and for their views to become known.
Dear VC Members:
I am traveling on business and so cannot attend. If there I would have made the following points:
1. Schedler: I would not spend a red cent on the Schedler house until you have some idea as to what we will be doing with it long-term. At what cost and for what use? What cost of operation and maintenance? As I have mentioned on numerous occasions, put together a committee of people knowledgeable about house restorations to advise if the house is worth saving. All this talk of a nationally recognized historic home is nonsense. What is the age of the house and what will it be restored as? Plus since Mayor Knudsen’s father lives across the street from the house, she should recuse herself from any consideration.
2. Parking garage: Has the VC no shame or sense of intellectual integrity? When will you get going on the Hudson St. Parking Deck? The idea of Mr. Sedon leading another study is laughable. Has he read the 10’s of thousands of pages of studies already undertaken, or are you using this as an excuse to do nothing? Shameful political cowardice!
3. Mayor Susan Knudsen’s new FB Page. Is this an official Village of Ridgewood page or the start of the Knudsen/Sedon 2018 reelection campaign. I would appreciate Mr. Matt Rogers’ input since the page uses the Village of Ridgewood logo.
This is being copied to the press and to Facebook. Let the sun shine in!
Thank you,
Rurik Halaby
