Ridgewood NJ, As part of NASA’s efforts to enable more access to space, four private astronauts are in orbit following the successful launch of the third all private astronaut mission to the International Space Station. Axiom Space astronauts lifted off at 4:49 p.m. EST on Thursday from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Private Space Station Starlab will be a tourist destination as well as a research and manufacturing hub

Ridgewood NJ, Nanoracks, Voyager Space, and Lockheed Martin are planning to build a free-flying private space station in low Earth orbit by 2027. Starlab will be a tourist destination as well as a research and manufacturing hub. It will feature a habitat module with 12,000 cubic feet of internal volume, a power and propulsion element, a laboratory setup, and a large external robotic arm to service payloads and cargo. NASA wants commercial stations to pick up the slack from the ISS as the outpost is due to be retired near the end of the decade.

Unique Bacterial Inhabitants Discovered on the International Space Station

Ridgewood NJ, according to a study published  in the journal Frontiers in Microbiology. The International Space Station has become the host for unique bacterial inhabitants. And these microbes could prove useful.

Four strains of bacteria, three of which were previously unknown to science, have been found on the space station. They may be used to help grow plants during long-term spaceflight missions in the future.
The study published Monday in the journal Frontiers in Microbiology.
