Governor Murphy Finally Starts to Faceup to Statewide Stolen Car Epidemic

Trenton NJ, in September , a suspect entered Governor Phil Murphy’s exclusive waterfront Middletown neighborhood looking to steal a car. The governor’s neighbor’s home was targeted by at least two would-be car thieves who tried to break into their Garage. Another neighbor scared the thieves off and the perpetrators fled the scene in a white BMW SUV.

Governor Phil Murphy implied on several occasions that Republicans are playing the “crime card” and apparently that’s racist.

On November 12th Governor Murphy seemed to change his tune and announced support for a series of legislative measures to combat auto theft. The Governor proposed:

NJ State Police and Partners Arrest 20 Fugitives, Including Individuals Wanted for Violent Crimes in Essex County

Newark NJ, The New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit coordinated a 3-day mobile deployment initiative that led to the arrest last week of 20 fugitives in Essex County, including individuals wanted for violent crimes. Of the 20 people arrested, 12 were identified as street gang members.

Governor Murphy and Superintendent Callahan Authorize Municipalities and Counties to Restrict Short-Term Rentals

Ridgewood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy and Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Patrick Callahan announced an Administrative Order allowing municipalities and counties to impose additional restrictions on short-term rentals in response to COVID-19. Governor Murphy previously signed Executive Order No. 108, permitting municipalities and counties to restrict online marketplaces for arranging and offering lodging. This Administrative Order gives municipalities and counties the ability to impose additional restrictions on the ability of hotels, motels, guest houses, or private residences, or parts thereof, to accept new transient guests or seasonal tenants after 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5.

Grewal today urged the public and business owners to comply with the Governor’s emergency orders— not only to keep themselves and others healthy, but to avoid creating more work and risks for hard-pressed law enforcement officers. He warned that those who fail to comply will be held accountable, citing numerous cases where charges have been filed for violations of the orders or other offenses related to the coronavirus.
