The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Recovered Over $25 million From Toll Evaders in 2023

Fort Lee NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced it recovered more than $25 million from toll evaders in 2023, up 14 percent from the previous year. In addition to sharing toll evasion information with regional partners, the Port Authority also enhanced toll enforcement efforts with increased targeted patrols, stream lined and improved internal data collection, and leveraged various types of license plate reader systems across a spectrum of roadway infrastructure and police technology to catch evaders. The agency also identified 10 repeat toll evaders including one from Hackensack, Englewood, Teaneck and Lodi against whom the largest default judgments were awarded in 2023.

The Port Authority Sets Record For Airport Passengers and Cargo Traffic in November

Newark NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced that the agency’s airports saw their busiest November on record, bolstered by a record-breaking Thanksgiving travel period. Port Authority airports remain on pace for their busiest year ever. Additionally, the PATH commuter railroad recorded its highest monthly total as a percentage compared to 2019 passenger levels, traffic at the bridges and tunnels continued to achieve pre-pandemic levels, and the Port of New York and New Jersey continued outpacing its 2019 cargo activity, closing 2023 as the nation’s second busiest port for loaded containers.

Hoboken NJ, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will begin a real-world test of five turnstiles equipped with its PATH commuter railroad new tap-and-go fare payment system beginning tomorrow, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m., with expansions planned to occur in phases based on experience with the pilot turnstiles. The agency also announced the new modern contactless system will be named TAPP, which stands for Total Access PATH Payment.

Fort Lee NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced that its three major airports continued their record-setting pace through the first seven months of the year, surpassing 2019 numbers. The agency also reported that the seaport was the nation’s busiest for the month of July, handling its highest total of TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) since October 2022. The agency also released monthly and year-to-date facility volumes at the agency’s airports, bridges and tunnels, PATH commuter rail and seaport.

Fort Lee NJ, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey expects nearly 5.5 million travelers across its facilities this Memorial Day weekend. To accommodate motorists traveling between New York and New Jersey, all ongoing repairs and construction projects at its crossings will be suspended from 5 a.m. Friday, May 26, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 30. A separate travel advisory for any lane closures or service changes for the remainder of that week will be issued next week.

Fort Lee NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today opened the newly renovated and fully accessible north walk of the George Washington Bridge, significantly improving the experience for bicyclists, pedestrians, and users with mobility challenges. Replacement of the bridge’s northside original steel suspender cables and associated closure of the path below the cables as part of the agency’s $2 billion Restoring the George program created an opportunity for the Port Authority to overhaul the path, including the replacement of the 171 access steps with gentler widened accessible approach paths to allow seamless connection from adjacent streets.

Fort Lee NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced today that Greg Ehrie, a 20-year veteran of the FBI will join the agency as its Chief Security Officer on Dec. 12, 2022. Ehrie’s FBI career involved stints as Special Agent in Charge of Intelligence at the New York field office and as Special Agent in Charge of its field office in Newark, N.J. Ehrie is currently the Chief Security Officer at the Anti-Defamation League.
