Ridgewood NJ ,the transition from the “one village one vote” referendum, shifting the school board election from April to November, presented a unique challenge. Following the advice of the school board attorney, the board decided to skip the November 2022 election. However, an unintended consequence emerged as all three members who had run in November 2021 were elected for three-year terms, instead of having one member serve a one-year term to maintain the required annual school board election cycle under New Jersey law. To rectify this, there is a proposal to hold an election in November 2024, with one seat for a one-year term and two seats for three-year terms, thereby reestablishing a more balanced 2-2-1 election cycle, which aligns with the state’s requirement for annual school board elections. This adjustment aims to ensure a fair and consistent election process for the school board moving forward.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Board of Education met on Friday, June 30, 2023. The meeting was supposed to be an endorsement of the current vendor AlphaBest for Before/After Care Program. Proponents Hyunju Kwak and Sheila Brogan failed to make their case and the board did not approve the current vendor.
Questions have now arisen over the fairness of the process with accusations of favoritism toward the current vendor . Several vendors have complained that the Request for proposal (RFP) failed to disclose some of the elements the Evaluation Committee used for scoring the bids and the June 30th meeting seemed to confirm that .
