RHS Applied Engineering Club Claims International Victory — First Time Since 2020 — Hours After AP Physics C Exam

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — On May 13, members of the Ridgewood High School (RHS) Applied Engineering Club, competing as Team VitaFlow, captured first place at the prestigious Thomas Edison Pitch Contest, defeating student teams from around the world in a final event held at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, New Jersey. The victory marks the first time since 2020, when the RHS Lemelson-MIT Solar Aqua Tech InvenTeam claimed top honors, that an RHS Applied Engineering Club team has earned this distinction.

RHS Team Estrogenerators placed 2nd with a $1500 prize in the NJSTEAM Tank Challenge

Ridgewood NJ , over 520 teams competed in this year’s NJSTEAM Tank Challenge, including RHS Teams FireGone, Estrogenerators, and GamaWatch, who completed year-round competitions and were among the 15 high school finalists. On June 8, the 2023 winners were announced with RHS Team Estrogenerators placing 2nd with a $1500 prize; Team FireGone placing 3rd with a $1000 prize, and Team GamaWatch earning recognitions in Innovative Technology, Eco-wear, Entrepreneurship, Creativity & Art, and Diversity!

Ridgewood High School Applied Engineering Club invent teams took first and second place in the national Thomas Edison Pitch Contest

Ridgewood NJ, two Ridgewood High School Applied Engineering Club invent teams took first and second place in the national Thomas Edison Pitch Contest. “The finalists were chosen from 180 teams in 21 states across the country who entered the contest this year. The student teams from elementary, middle, and high school displayed wonderful creativity and inventive spirit for the 10th Anniversary Celebration.”
The Solar Aqua Tech team took first place in the contest! This team created a water bottle that converts undrinkable to drinkable using only sunlight and oxygen. This cheaper and easily accessible way to sanitize water can help make clean water more accessible to people in need all over the world.
