East Rutherford NJ, the Paradox Museum at the American Dream Mall is in hot water, facing eviction due to over $1.74 million in unpaid rent and other fees, according to court records.
The museum, which opened in summer 2023, offers visitors an 11,000-square-foot interactive experience featuring more than 70 mind-bending exhibits, including the popular Upside Down Room styled as a New Jersey diner. Despite its unique appeal, financial woes threaten its future at the massive shopping and entertainment complex.
Details of the Financial Dispute
Court filings reveal that the museum owes:
- $863,632.85 in back rent.
- $883,372.50 in unpaid liens, including construction bills.
American Dream’s developer, Ameream, filed court records on January 15, stating the museum is in default of its lease agreement.
No Comment from Parties Involved
Efforts to reach representatives from both American Dream and the Paradox Museum have been unsuccessful. As of now, the museum remains listed as an attraction on the American Dream website, with operating hours and ticket links still available.
About the Paradox Museum
The Paradox Museum aims to “defy reality” with optical illusions, interactive exhibits, and creative spaces designed to captivate and engage visitors of all ages. Despite its popularity, the unpaid debts cast uncertainty over its continued operation at American Dream.

What’s Next for the Paradox Museum?
As the financial dispute unfolds, the museum’s future at American Dream remains uncertain. With its lease in jeopardy and no public comment from either party, it’s unclear whether the museum will resolve its debts or be forced to shut its doors.
