Ringwood NJ, a Democratic stronghold for decades, saw a surprising shift in the 2024 election results that has political analysts taking notice. Vice President Kamala Harris won New Jersey with a narrow margin, securing 51.5% of the vote against Donald Trump’s 46.5%. But the shocker came as Trump flipped three counties, including Passaic County, including the city of Passaic itself a traditional Democratic bastion.
Governor Phil Murphy expressed his concern over the shrinking Democratic lead. “The margin in 2020 in New Jersey was around 17 points. This year, it’s around 5. It’s hard not to be sober about that and reflect,” he said.
Passaic County, long a Democratic stronghold, turned red for the first time since 1992. Trump claimed 50% of the vote there, winning with 95,620 votes to Harris’s 89,086—a major shift from 2020, when Joe Biden won the county by a significant margin, with 57.55% of the vote.
This change in Passaic County reflects a statewide trend toward the Republican side. While Harris maintained a five-point lead statewide, Biden had a much stronger showing in 2020, winning New Jersey by nearly 16 points. No Republican has carried New Jersey since George H.W. Bush in 1988.
Despite this shift, some Democratic areas held firm. Cities like Prospect Park, Haledon, and Paterson remained blue, standing as Democratic holdouts in a county leaning more Republican than it has in decades.
As analysts dig deeper into these numbers, the 2024 election may mark a turning point for New Jersey’s political landscape. With long-time Democratic strongholds shifting red, New Jersey’s status as a reliably blue state is suddenly less certain.

nice to see Ridgewood Vote lock-step with Paterson
They’re more alike than many people here would like to admit.
Paterson is a major “after hours” shopping location
Ridgewood has more in common with Wayne socio-economically than it does Ho-Ho-Kus, Summit or Chatham.
Fact.
Next is Bergen County!
wow, I would not have thought Passaic County before Bergen
Next we get rid of lame duck Murphy and elect Jack Ciattarelli
Murphy is probably yelling at the moon about all the jobs he wanted to have under a Harris administration.
