New York NY, a 26-year-old man with ties to Maryland and Hawaii has been arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in connection with the ongoing investigation into last week’s shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. While not formally charged in the shooting, Luigi Mangione has been described by the New York City Police Department as a “person of interest.”

Arrest Details

Mangione was apprehended on Monday by Altoona police after a McDonald’s employee recognized him and tipped off authorities. At the time of his arrest, Mangione was reportedly carrying a gun, a silencer, and a fraudulent New Jersey ID. Police confirmed that the alias on the ID matched the one used by the suspect to check into a hostel prior to the shooting.

As of now, Mangione faces charges related to the gun and silencer but has not been officially charged with the shooting.

Mangione’s Background

Maryland Roots and Academic Achievements

  • Education: Mangione graduated as valedictorian of Baltimore’s prestigious Gilman School in 2016. In his graduation speech, he expressed gratitude to his parents and classmates for supporting his education at the private institution.
  • Higher Education: He earned a degree in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020.

Family Ties

Mangione is part of a prominent Baltimore family known for its ownership of local businesses, including an AM talk radio station and country clubs. He is also the cousin of Maryland State Delegate Nino Mangione (R).

Potential Motive

A three-page handwritten manifesto found in Mangione’s possession may offer clues to his motivations. While officials have not disclosed full details, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny suggested it expresses animosity toward corporate America.

Key quotes reportedly include:

  • “These parasites had it coming.”
  • “I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.”

The shooting occurred as Thompson was en route to speak at an investor conference, which has since reignited public discourse around the U.S. healthcare system and insurance industry.

Authorities also recovered bullet casings from the scene of the shooting, allegedly engraved with terms like “deny,” “defend,” and “depose.”

Social Media and Reading Habits

Mangione’s social media activity reveals a diverse set of interests. His apparent account on X (formerly Twitter) followed figures across the political spectrum, including:

  • Political Figures: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
  • Intellectuals and Media: Richard Dawkins, Bret Weinstein, and Jonathan Haidt.
  • Pop Culture: Steve-O from Jackass.

Earlier this year, Mangione left a review on Goodreads for The Unabomber Manifesto, describing Ted Kaczynski as an “extreme political revolutionary” while condemning his violent acts.

Weapon Details: The Ghost Gun

Police report that Mangione was in possession of a “ghost gun,” a firearm assembled at home from a kit or made using a 3D printer. These guns lack serial numbers, making them difficult to trace.

Ghost guns are increasingly seen as a public safety threat, as they allow individuals to bypass background checks and other firearm regulations.

What’s Next?

While Mangione remains a person of interest, he has not been charged in connection with the shooting. Investigations are ongoing, and officials continue to analyze evidence, including the manifesto and weapon.

Authorities have not ruled out additional charges as they work to uncover the full scope of the events leading to the attack on Brian Thompson.

This cat was on his way to an investors meeting to tell the hedge funds that UHC was poised to profit over 400 billion next year. With a B.

        1. The American people have become like Vesalius’ dogs, respectfully licking the hand of their vivisectionist, even as he’s slicing them to pieces alive.

      2. these corrupt leaders, these crooked politicians. the healthcare system is so messed up in this country. Big Ag, Pharma, and Healthcare. The system is designed to make us weaker and poorer over time. THats why over the last few decades the average AMerican human micro biome levels have declined up to 70% over time. They talk about curing cancer and all the bs, when in reality its a reciprocal process which they benefit from at all levels. With the arrival of 20 million new illegals, yall think our healthcare system was gonna get any better?I havent seen a doctor in 15 years. I hope i never go to the hospital again. somepeople go in and never make it out alive. Especially those that dont have money. You go in for a procedure and then next thing your dead.

  4. no surprise that once again the perpetrator is a loony liberal

  5. He’s 26. This is key. 26 is the age you can no longer be included in your parents health insurance. My guess is his parents were trying to get him to start being an adult and he was angry about no longer getting a free dancing through life card.

    1. apparently, he had back problems that required some screws and reconstructive surgery but why he spiraled to extremism is yet to be explained by his 3 page manifesto that has not been released.

  6. He sent an example not saying it’s right, sometimes your wife are being wrong. These insurance companies make a lot of money and there’s no excuse. Stop playing the game with their secret codes to deny their customers out of healthcare. This has nothing to do with Obama care what care you have This is about healthcare. We all pay for car insurance you get to an accident you expect to have your car repaired or replaced not denied. What are we paying for car insurance then they knew what they were doing it’s about their profits.

  7. My insurance companies have to start paying this is bullshit way too many people are being denied medical attention end of the story thumbs up

    1. Your insurance company doesn’t have to do anything outside of it’s contractual obligations, all of which you consented to when you accepted their policy. You knew what you were signing up for. You read the fine print. You understood that insurance companies exist for profit, and that insurance companies make profit by collecting as much money as possible and paying out as little money as possible. That’s just business. It’s not personal. Stop whining and playing the victim. It’s all you liberals know how to do.
