Hello! Over the weekend, the NJ Star Ledger published an article titled “Turf Wars Raging as N.J. Residents Face Off Over Replacing Grass with Artificial Fields.” Additionally, CBS News New York visited Ridgewood yesterday and covered the topic in their evening news segment and put it over social media (1+million followers), highlighting the ongoing battles surrounding artificial turf fields in New Jersey communities. They focused on Ridgewood as the main news hook given the atrocity of artificial turf on historic property and potential destruction of our green environment and Revolutionary War artifacts.
On the latter point, media outlets have now started to engage with local residents on the issue, expressing alarm over what’s happening in Ridgewood. We will keep you posted.
In the meantime, your continued support is needed. To proudly display your support, simply reply to this email to order a lawn sign. By placing these signs across our community, we encourage others to join the movement. These signs were a big media draw.

CBS at the site ? Love it.
Take that Pee Wee and Pammy !
Epic. Was so proud of these neighbors. What a resourceful bunch of passionate people fighting for their neighborhood and to see that the right this is done at “Schedler Park”.

CBS on speed dial. Terrific!!!
I watched it, you can find it on Youtube.
Of Course Loraine has the Balls to go on air!!!!! Rubber Stamp boy just lies like the rest of them, “we are looking into it” sure you are, you will do whatever the A$$ Clown mayor wants, thats why you were put there.
They should do their homework and dig into the pasta man and all the shady deals Paul has done so far. He is a discrace to the Village.
Let’s see that list of atrocities.
Here you go:
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been used in a variety of industrial, agricultural, military and commercial product applications, including firefighting foams, stain- or water-repellant fabric coatings and non-stick cookware. But the same properties that made them attractive for these uses also make them a persistent pollutant in the environment.
Why You Should Care
1) it is toxic
2) It can cause cancer and other elevated health risks
3) it is bad for the environment. You know, the ozone layer.
2. They are considered an environmental contaminant.
Regulatory agencies worldwide are concerned with PFAS releases and the related environmental and health impacts. PFAS have been found in groundwater in communities surrounding military bases where firefighting foams were used in training exercises. Emerging research on their toxicity and environmental persistence has raised new concerns about PFAS exposure in these communities.
PFAS are often characterized as “persistent” since they are extremely resistant to typical environmental degradation processes. Some do not hydrolyze, photolyze or biodegrade under environmental conditions, resulting in prolonged human exposure.
Some studies in humans have suggested that PFAS may affect the development of fetuses and young children, leading to possible growth, learning or behavioral problems. Other studies have pointed to possible links to cancer, immune system disorders and fertility problems
The vast majority (99%) come from clothing. If you genuinely want to reduce micro plastics in our water you would start with limiting plastic in clothing an of course the little pods used for the detergent
Pasta Primavera probably has many skeletons in his closet that we don’t even know about. He has admitted to lying and it is only a matter of time before Ridgewood is a laughing stock for being associated with someone of his caliber. Just do a google search and you will come up with a ton of bad deeds on this guy. He is no historic preservation expert and even his own website boasts that he aims to achieve his client’s objectives. So in this case, put a giant ball field on a historic property if it means suggesting to move the house or minimize the historic components. Another bad actor in with the Mayor and majority block of the current VC.
Lorraine has been against the over development of Schedler and against turf. Pam was against turf in the end, but was in favor of the larger field. Paul, Siobhan, and Evan were all in on artificial turf plus the sports complex type set up which would include cutting down most if not all of the trees, and amenities would include temporary lights, one or more parking lots, small playground, walking paths, public bathrooms, lightening shelter, potential billboard and other things not yet disclosed. Aso, The majority block want Schedler to be a version of Habernickel Park, also in Ridgewood, where residents are very upset that Healthbarn is operating outside of posted working hours hosting parties 24/7 and run many activities like summer camp and private parties.
Thank you Lorraine, but I do have to say she was NOT a help to the Habernickel neighbors and the Healthbarn nightmare. Happy she is being more supportive of the Schedlerneighbors!
Well, since the topic was brought up. How helpful are/were the Habernickel neighbors to Schedler? I recall many Schedler neighbors sounding the alarm and fighting for Habernickel. An expansion of Healthbarn at Habernickel is grinding the rumor mill…
What the He!! does Evan even bring to the table, nothing at all .. has to stand during the council meeting? They had a short meeting last night, 20 mins in he is standing? I could see it after an hr or two. WTF
Next lets help the Habernickel neighbors with Healthbarn over activities and noise along with the false pretense that Feed the Frontlines is located there along with the HB foundation.
Habernickel and Hawes need the Schedler playbook.
I am all in to help the Habernickel and Schedler neighbors. LET’S GO!
trace the 4M funding. Where did the money go from the 4M healthbarn funding? How much of that went to the Mayor’s restaurant?
Yes how would some one trace the money? It should be exposed if there was any wrong doing here. What were the salaries to those who run these foundations too
Pau-Lie’s plans are crumbling. Also saw CBS kept running the segment in the morning, afternoon and evening. Way to go!
Other municipalities and green organizations are posting the segment on social media and it’s spreading like wildfire.
I see the Whistleblower spoke via Zoom or whatever…clown show!
not one photo of all the supposed problems at Habernickel has ever been posted anywhere
need to look at financials.. also they are a non profit and they sent campaign emails, i.e. participated in the political campaign, which should disqualify them from IRS non profit status.
the neighbors tried and the owner of HB filed a formal complaint about photos and e mails that neighbors sent to the council. She called it harassment yet she was not even involved in the e mails. She must have OPRA’d them herself. She lost terribly in court, I heard, no surprise, but her scare tactic worked. Many backed off and others were told no photos were allowed in the park.
never ever saw a single one
OPRA
I don’t think you will get any I heard the owner of HB files complaints if you photo anything
you have to prove the allegations
How?
photos
How do you photograph noise or over use?
Time stamp videos of comings and goings. According to the Village website, Healthbarn employees are allowed to come and go one hour prior to opening and closing. So look at their posted ours and if they are outside of this timeframe, you document it with video. Then send those video clips to the Village Manager. That is irrefutable proof and more than that, it should be a done deal to get them to adhere to proper guidelines of operating a facility in a neighborhood.
One would think. But the village does not care that the business doesn’t follow the lease. It is crazy the excuses Heather Mailander would give for some of the businesses actions. The neighbors were always dead ended with Heathers lane responses
Shit show’
The Schedler neighbors are a strong bunch. If the Habernickel neighbor was to start their own revolution, they should. It isn’t fair to let Healthbarn run rouge and do whatever they want whenever they want. Bigos claims that isn’t true, but pretty much everyone else does.
little late don’t you think ?
Not too late for someone to step up and make sure the lease is followed. That’s about all we can hope for now but that isn’t even done.
I wonder if Frank, Bee man, Mortimer will run for council next go round or if he is after Bigos’ position if/when she retires. He has stood up in favor of development at Schedler, so he is right up there with the other bad actors who are making wrong decisions for Ridgewood.
This mayor and majority block council (minus Lorraine) are truly hoping that one is watching so that they can go in and do things like they did with the berm and cutting down the initial clearing of trees. The berm is full of dead trees and weeds. I have no opinion yet on the new Village manager, but I can safely bet that this neighborhood is watching everything that unfolds and will not let this council go crazy. I think by now we know that transaparency has gone out the window but that doesn’t mean that information will not be forthcoming.
There are over 350 petitions signed opposing the over development of the historic property, artificial turf and the additional acquisition of property to move the house. This list is growing every day and people all over the Village will realize that their taxpayer dollars only serve one part of the community.
Apparently Winograd isn’t only a historical “informant” for the Village of Ridgewood as Mr. Primavera mentioned at a recent council meeting, but now she apparently also has a Research Science degree as well. According to today’s TapInto Ridgewood article she has been studying up on turf:
The conversation surrounding PFAS has been somewhat reinvigorated by the approved plans for the Schedler property that include a turf field. Both Councilmember Lorraine Reynolds and Deputy Mayor Pam Perron voted against the installation of a turf field at Schedler citing concerns about PFAS in the artificial surface as a strong reason for their opposition. Councilmember Winograd does not see the turf field at Schedler and the allocation of funds for PFAS treatment centers as being under the same umbrella of issues.
“I see them very separately,” Ms. Winograd noted. “I do not have the same concerns as other members of the council regarding the turf. I feel that there has been an enormous amount of progress in environmentally friendly versions of turf. And I am hopeful that as the project moves forward we source the most environmentally friendly turf.”
She is desperate to help the Soccer bunnies in town.
By the way, I’m not going to miss M Rapinhoe.
Clueless, have some more wine-grad
The abuse of power has got to be stopped. This mayor and majority council are running around trying everything they can to get this project completed as fast as they possibly can. Were campaign promises made to the sports community? It is super that Ridgewood is getting front and center visibility on this topic.
CBS News even posted it on their site in addition to all of the airplay. Go team!

If all 40+ people that commented on this post in favor of the neighbors walked into the next village council meeting it would make a huge difference. Don’t sit behind your post, get out and #makechangehappen. Don’t let your voice and opinions be suppressed
Yeah right. If 40 people show up to the meeting to speak only 10 get heard. This clown council only allows the first public comment period to go on for 30 minutes. Each resident is given 3 minutes to speak. If everybody takes their 3 minutes that’s it. Maybe some commenters don’t go the full 3 minutes so maybe you can squeeze in another 2, so 12 people out of 40 get heard. There used to be a second comment period at the end of the meeting but they cut the meeting off at 11 p.m. so no additional comments.
These 4 ass clowns also “fought so hard” for “hybrid” meetings and letting commenters call it in. Well I guess to save face they have to let a few callers speak so subtract about 4 from your little group. That brings your grand total to 8 speakers getting a bite at the apple out of 40. Go to the bar and have a couple drinks. You’ll be better off for it.
The punch line of it all is that these 4 hypocrites campaigned on hearing all residents and transparency and buzz words like that when in fact they lie, cover up, censor and drastically reduced public comments at open public meetings. Enjoy your 12 percent tax hike next year and make way for rubber grass at Schedler.
The people who want to speak and are denied same at the “end” of the meeting need to raise hell and demand to be heard. Enforcing their arbitrary “curfew” needs to be made so uncomfortable for them that they will have no choice but to allow remarks to be entered into the record. CBS news should cover that, too.
All of you who think showing up at a VC meeting and express your disappointment will take care of the problem are delusional. This guy doesn’t blink if you call him a j@rk in the face. He is unscrupulous like some of the worst characters of greek mythology. You only win this through legal channels. This is a rich village with a lawyer in every street. They should be called upon to invest their time and brain to help the village. But I won’t expect it to happen so Schedler and RW will be screwed irreversibly. FB doesn’t solve sh!t.
