New York NY, President-elect Donald Trump is set to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Thursday morning, marking his first time participating in the ceremonial event. According to sources, the occasion is tied to the anticipated announcement of Trump being named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year.”

A Symbolic Return to New York

Trump, who spent decades as a prominent New York real estate mogul before relocating to Florida, will travel back to New York City on Wednesday evening from his home in Palm Beach. The following morning, he will perform the honor of starting the day’s trading session at the NYSE—a longstanding tradition often reserved for major milestones or celebrations.

Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” Tradition

The expected recognition by Time magazine is reportedly the primary reason for the event, as reported by Politico. Trump was previously named Time’s “Person of the Year” in 2016 after his first presidential victory. This year’s shortlist for the honor included notable figures like podcaster Joe Rogan, adding to the competitive field.

The announcement comes on the heels of last year’s honoree, Taylor Swift, who was celebrated for her cultural impact. In 2022, Time CEO Jessica Sibley had the honor of ringing the NYSE opening bell to commemorate the announcement of Swift as “Person of the Year.”

A Family Tradition of Ringing the Bell

Although this will be Trump’s first time ringing the NYSE bell, his family is no stranger to the event. Former First Lady Melania Trump participated in the ceremony in September 2019 to promote her “Be Best” initiative during her husband’s presidency.

The opening bell ceremony is a symbolic way to mark the start of trading on Wall Street and is often used to highlight significant achievements or partnerships. With Trump’s upcoming recognition and return to the city where he built his real estate empire, the event is set to draw significant attention from both Wall Street and the public.

    1. You know what’s super ironic? I’m not saying those are bad things, but if someone came along who was sincerely interesting in doing any of those things, people like you would be the first in line to condemn them, because none of that could go down the way you think it would. That’s the funny thing. And I know you don’t know that otherwise you wouldn’t be entertaining such preposterous thoughts to begin with.
