Trenton NJ, in a major shake-up for New Jersey’s legal landscape, President Donald Trump has appointed his former defense attorney and current White House counselor, Alina Habba, as the state’s top federal prosecutor.
Habba, who turns 41 this week, steps into the role previously held by John Giordano, whom Trump has nominated to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Namibia. A partner at a small law firm near Trump’s Bedminster golf course, Habba has been a key figure in Trump’s legal battles, serving as both a senior advisor for his political action committee and a spokesperson during high-profile court cases.
While she does not list any prosecutorial experience in her biography, Habba is eager to take on the role. She emphasized her commitment to supporting Attorney General Pam Bondi in advancing the administration’s “America First” agenda, promising a tough stance on crime.
“If you look at what happened in crime, what’s going on in Newark, what’s going on in Camden, this has been a neglected state,” Habba stated. “It is one of the most populated states for its size, and it needs to stop. We’re gonna do a bang-up job.”
