I don’t usually react to The Ridgewood Blog posts, but your the recent “reporting” on the incident at Habernickel, “Ridgewood Firefighters Honored for Life Saving Action”, completely missed the mark in describing the incident and should be corrected.

While Ridgewood EMS did respond and ensured that Rich Brooks was safely transported to Valley Hospital, the important element in saving his life was the prompt and efficient cardiopulmonary resuscitation (“CPR”) administered to Rich by Julia Buckley and Stacey Antine immediately after Rick collapsed. Working as a team Stacey and Julia kept his heart going until the police and EMS arrived. As the proclamation read at the April 10 Village Council meeting noted, their actions were “nothing short of heroic” and that their “quick action administering CPR allowed him to survive”. Had they not performed this life-saving procedure, it is likely that this event would have had a much less positive outcome. As someone that was present when Rich collapsed, I can attest to Stacy’s and Julia’s professional response being the primary reason for this wonderful outcome.

As Mayor Vagianos summed up at the award ceremony, it is important for everyone to learn CPR. Ordinary citizens are capable of amazing things when they have the proper tools.

I am disappointed that The Ridgewood Blog chose to omit the complete story of what happened at the January 23 Parks meeting and the Village Council’s celebration of all that contributed to Rick’s care. The Council’s commendation was so much more than a recognition of our employees. It exemplified what makes Ridgewood a great community.

  1. That’s because the Blog can’t bear to possibly say anything positive about Stacey Antine. Watch: here come the HealthBarn trolls…

    1. Maybe because it was after leased hours and NO one should have been! Let alone having a secret parks meeting to knock down the stable that Stacy couldn’t wait to get rid of !

  2. Jim – don’t take yourself so seriously.

  3. For shame Ridgewood Blog! For shame! So it was the SHE-roes that truly saved the day, while EMS merely served as glorified Uber drivers. How could you get this one so wrong? So wrong and so wrong.

  5. Did you also trash the FMBA 47 Facebook page report of the incident? Or are you just a Blog hater?

  6. AND it’s not Healthbarn haters. It’s wondering WHY the village, Nancy Bigios, the mayor and the new village manager are facilitating a business???? It doesn’t make sense at all?
