Trenton NJ, Senator Doug Steinhardt (R-23) announced his intention to introduce legislation aimed at strengthening State and Federal cooperation to help stabilize our illegal immigration crisis.
The bill would require New Jersey law enforcement agencies to notify federal immigration authorities within 24 hours of arresting any individual for a crime of the first through fourth degrees, or any misdemeanor involving drugs, theft, robbery, possession of a firearm without a permit, fraud, or any other crime that results in detention if the individual is in the United States illegally.
“We cannot ignore the need for cooperation between state and federal authorities to ensure the efficient and economic enforcement of our laws,” said Sen. Steinhardt. “This bill seeks to do that, to safeguard the general public, protect those who are here legally or seeking legal asylum, and ensure that individuals who are here illegally and commit crimes are held accountable.”
Recently, Governor Murphy and Attorney General Platkin have made it clear that they will resist any actions by President Trump they view as undermining the rights of New Jersey residents. Steinhardt’s bill directly challenges that stance, signaling his commitment to the rule of law and ensuring that New Jersey law enforcement plays an active role in supporting federal immigration enforcement, especially when it involves individuals committing crimes.
“The safety of New Jersey residents must always come first. Under this bill, State law enforcement would partner with federal authorities to address illegal immigration and ensure that those who break the law face appropriate consequences, regardless of their immigration status,” Steinhardt concluded.
The bill challenges New Jersey’s “Sanctuary State” policies and would mandate that state law enforcement cooperate with federal authorities to ensure the timely and meaningful exchange of information regarding individuals suspected to be in the United States illegally. Under this proposed law, New Jersey’s law enforcement would be required to immediately inform federal immigration agencies whenever an arrest involves an individual believed to be in the country without legal authorization.

There should be no sanctuary states or towns. Come to the US legally and you have no problem. In addition let’s stop using taxpayer dollars to house, feed, school and supply medical care to illegals. As American citizens, we don’t get a free ride. Why should illegals get one?
Why? Because we have to incentivize your replacements somehow.
Murphy and his losers need to resign
He barely won re-election thanks to a bunch of ‘found’ votes in the shithole of newark
All 50 States shifted right. Yes, even blue States. If these Democrats who won don’t understand the mindset of their constituents, they are destined for the political abyss.
Trump will clean up this border crisis with all these illegals come heck or high water. If anyone can get it done it’s, him!
I hope so!!!’ This state and Ridgewood with its awful leadership are falling apart!!!
