Response to Open Public Records Act (OPRA) Request Indicates likely OPRA Violation by Ridgewood Councilperson

Ridgewood NJ, in response to a comment made privately by an involved citizen concerning his/her inability to view posts being made on Councilperson Siobhan Winograd’s official Facebook page, one of our readers filed an Open Public Records Act request with the Village of Ridgewood in an attempt to gather pertinent information about setup parameters for the page in question.

The response to our reader’s request revealed that Councilperson Winograd has restricted viewing of most of what she posts to those who are her Facebook “friends.” That is, viewing of posts made on her official page, including those in which official Village of Ridgewood business is being discussed, are NOT viewable by members of the general public, which is a clear violation of NJ’s Open Public Records Act (based upon a judge’s ruling associated with a court case in neighboring Glen Rock).
Subsequent to receipt of the OPRA response, The Ridgewood Blog has learned that Councilperson Winograd’s Facebook page has been “disabled.” All text, documents, photos, etc. related to official Village of Ridgewood matters included within the page are currently unable to be viewed on-line by any member of the public except, of course, the Councilperson herself.
The subterfuge attempts from the Ridgewood Village Council dais continue, this despite claims of “transparency” made from said dais, and the State of NJ law. When, if ever, will it all end.

c’mon, turtle lives really Do Matter!
Nothing wrong putting up signs to bring awareness to habitant loss which has really happened along woods and stream degradation which I’ve seen past years in Ridgewood streams. I missed the turtle video. People shouldn’t knock down (form of bullying) a sincere cause.
        ref:
        https://conservewildlifenj.org/?species=glyptemys-insculpta
        “Current Threats, Status, and Conservation
Historically, the wood turtle was a fairly common species within suitable habitat in New Jersey. By the 1970s, however, declines were noted as wood turtles were absent from many historic sites due to habitat loss and stream degradation. Because of this, the wood turtle was listed as a threatened species in New Jersey in 1979.

Since the late 1970s, biologists have monitored and surveyed wood turtle sites in New Jersey, providing valuable data regarding the life history, reproduction, and habitat use of these turtles in the state. There is, however, a continuing need to examine the productivity and juvenile survival of wood turtles, which may be threatened by disturbance or predation. The New Jersey Endangered Species Act prohibits the collection or possession of wood turtles. However, collecting of wood turtles as pets continues to be a problem which may result in reduced population size or the loss of local populations.”
Overdevelopment of land (apartment bldgs.)and Overpopulation of people is ruining nature.

Yes, but she is planning to over develop the land over on the Schedler lot. What about those turtles. Don’t they matter?

          Couldn’t agree with you more.

          Now go tell Siobhan.

All wild life matters. The point is she is favoring turtles over squirrels. It’s just crazy behavior for a council person when Ridgewood is sinking!!!!!

Is it an amazing how they all talk in circles. Between the mayors, council members, managers, directors, will go to the same school of bullshit. We all had enough of you.. It’s time for the Attorney General to come in. And clean house.

Oh my GOD. Siobhan is an idiot train wreck. There are rules governing public records and yes facebook of a government official is a public record. There was a case in Glen Rock a couple of years back. The courts ruled that an elected official CANNOT block anyone and for sure this blonde moron cannot just delete her entire page with all those discussions and opinions

You would assume she is aware that is unethical but maybe she figured she could always feign ignorance.

She and her cronies would also remove people who made a “negative” comment on Ridgewood Moms and Dads Facebook page.

So everyone in the village pretty much is aware that Siobhan used to control the RW Moms & Dads group, now run by her pal Steve F. She blocked people, kicked them off by either suspending their access or blocked them from gaining access all because she want to control the dialogue. Just ask almost anyone. Lots of people have since left or just stay on as lurkers.. Now Steve is the control czar but maybe it is actually the queen herself hiding behind the veil with her hand on the controls. But here’s the thing, you can get away with it only for so long before people realize what a nut job you really are and honey, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Does anyone know what the reason was that she took down her Facebook page? Since it is an official page, unlike a personal page, she needs permission and cannot block people, as the Mayor had previously done, because it is unethical and illegal from what I am reading.

So there must have been a driving force for her to take this action.

Maybe a squirrel got in and deleted the page when she stepped away to refill her coffee mug.

These things happen everyday of the week. Especially if you are on this village council.

I think that the first thing that Council representative Winograd should do when she puts her Facebook page back up is do a selfie video with Scott Muller making a public apology to former Mayor Knudson. This would probably get a high number of likes and comments but it is a first step in the recovery program they both need.

Enough already with all the bullshit. Ridgewood has become the laugh in stock of Bergen County, at one time the village used to be the leaders not anymore,

They sure don’t care about anyone’s health and well-being. Do they. Have they shown it no. No interest. There you go, don’t worry about anyone self. Let’s just worry about making a new ballfield.
