Ridgewood Celebrates 125 Years
Ridgewood NJ, This year Ridgewood, NJ is celebrating its 125th anniversary! To commemorate the occasion, the Village of Ridgewood is holding a series of events to highlight various moments from the past, and to look forward to our future.
KNOW YOUR VILLAGE HISTORY: Charles Healy Day, a Ridgewood resident, was a pioneer of early aviation, both for civilian and military purposes. Day was credited with developing laminated wood used to make stronger propellers, and in 1910 he designed, built, and flew the nation’s first tractor biplane. After working for a variety of companies and designing a variety of aircraft, Day and his wife Gladys decided in 1931 to fly around the world, though they flew only over land and traversed oceans by boat. In the mid-1930s, the Days were settled in China, where they owned an airplane factory that was bombed frequently by the Japanese.
