Ridgewood NJ, Councilman Frank Mortimer, also known as “BeeMan,” has long presented himself as an environmentalist, championing bee-friendly causes and promoting a greener future. However, his recent actions are telling a very different story. At a recent Village Council Meeting, Mortimer declared, “I am 100 percent in favor of asphalt and roads.”
He also declared being 100 percent in favor of the Schedler Field project, which will turn 8 acres of wooded property into concrete parking lots and artificial turf fields.
This move directly contradicts the principles of sustainability and environmental preservation. The destruction of the Schedler woods means the loss of biodiversity, the displacement of wildlife, and irreversible harm to a natural ecosystem. Instead of protecting the land that bees and other wildlife rely on, Mortimer’s actions represent a direct attack on the environment and the public he claims to care about. Nothing screams “greenwasher” more than this.

Frank Mortimer is a honey hustler in a greenwashed suit that exploits bees and uses the “green” angle for personal gain.
He’s proving that his commitment to the environment is nothing more than a political façade and way to make money.
Mortimer’s actions are nothing short of hypocritical and shiesty.
When you think of an environmentalist, you picture someone dedicated to preserving the natural world, protecting ecosystems, and working tirelessly to ensure future generations inherit a planet in good health. FRANK IS NOT THIS!
Environmentalism? More Like Environmental Dismantling
Genuine environmentalists understand that the fight for green spaces isn’t about paving over them for convenience. It’s about preserving the land for future generations, ensuring that nature remains a part of urban life, and promoting sustainable alternatives. Frank Mortimer is doing the opposite of preserving!
Turning this Ridgewood property into a parking lot and covering it in artificial turf is not just an environmental sin; it’s an outright betrayal of every environmentalist cause Mortimer claims to support.
Asphalt and fake grass? That’s just as bad as the bees he exploits to make a living and the opposite of sustainable, bee-friendly, or green in any sense of the word.
he was hired (elected) as a rubber Vagianos stamper…
Bought and paid for. You think he paid for those mailers? Paul Vagianos had picked another puppet for the magical mystery tour.
Everyone’s an environmentalist and conservationist … until lawn maintenance time.
Is there any public record of Frank “long presented himself as an environmentalist” ? Or is this just an assumption based on the fact that he is a bee keeper?
He’s been running the no mow may and slow mow may initiatives telling people to not to mow their lawns as part of Green Ridgewood’s pollinator pathways effort and expressly stated in his campaign mailers when running for council that he wanted to make Ridgewood the envy of other towns in terms of sustainability. He has fooled people with this nonsense for way too long and now the truth has come out and he continues to claim that he is an environmentalist.

No self respecting master beekeeper would be advocating for artificial turf.
Unfortunately, we are stuck with this loser and all of his phony bs about loving nature has proven to be his biggest marketing scam ever!
Councilman Mortimer considers himself an environmentalist because he said kids should be playing sports outside on turf because it is healthy. He probably got involved in these committees to bolster his lackluster image and sell honey and books and be the local Bee Man but now that people have tuned in to the fact that he is a fake, they will ignore him just like they do with the Mayor, council and village manager and other village idiots who have nothing intelligent to say. He fits right in to make bad decisions that benefit their backers. It is all a very obvious scheme.
Correct, Mortimer got involved with the Ridgewood community to promote his backyard honey. Exploiting bees and taxpayer resources are his specialty.
People have called out the fact that this guy told the public that the EPA said turf was safe. So not only is he spreading misleading information in a public setting but he continually looks for ways to tell the residents that there is nothing wrong with plastic grass. If he were truly someone who cared about the environment and the planet, it is just not something you would get behind. His words are very telling and maybe he thought he would get away with fooling people long enough to get somewhere, but it is hopeless at best and he looks awfully foolish with the red faced rants.
he is weak and inefffectual
Just a reminder that the placement of a ballfield in direct proximity to a major, high-speed highway is a recipe for a disaster, possibly one of national scope. Journalists will ask “What were they possibly thinking?” Just imagine the horror – and lawsuits. This Council is on notice.
I agree. Problem is Vagianos and Weitz and Winograd and probably Mortimer made promises to the the sports organizations who are running businesses in Ridgewood and while they might be non-profit in status, they make a profit, just like Healthbarn runs a private business while assuming a non-profit status from what I have been told. It is literally pay to play.
