Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey experiences a disproportionate number of pedestrian injury crashes and fatalities compared to the nation as a whole. On Tuesday we notices somewhere north of 25 cars flying through the crosswalk Infront of the Ridgewood Library and Ridgewood Police Station with in a 10 minute period . Would have made a ticket bonanza for the Village .
The driver of a vehicle must stop and stay stopped for a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk, but shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except at crosswalks when the movement of traffic is being regulated by police officers or traffic control signals, or where otherwise prohibited by municipal, county, or State regulation, and except where a pedestrian tunnel or overhead pedestrian crossing has been provided, but no pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield.
C. Of each fine imposed and collected pursuant to subsection B. of the section, $100 shall be forwarded to the State Treasurer who shall annually deposit the moneys into the “Pedestrian Safety Enforcement and Education Fund” created by section 1 of PL 2005, c 84 (C.39:4-36.2)
PEDESTRIANS MUST obey pedestrian signals and use crosswalks at signalized intersections. Both carry a $54.00 fine for failure to observe the law.
MOTORISTS in New Jersey MUST stop for pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. Failure to observe the law may subject you to one or more of the following:

exceptions, violations. penalties.
Ummm…why not put a cop there every once in a while.

Lets ticket pedestrians who think they r invincible and can walk out from behind park cars while reading their phones and expect drivers to stop on a dime. Take 30 seconds and use the cross walk.

That’s why, I installed a camera on my car, so when these liquids runoff the sidewalk right in front of my car, and I have them guess what it’s their fault. And the clocks my speed I make sure I do not speed I will not be liable, I will not get sued, they will be on their own. do you want to walk off the sidewalk without looking right into traffic while you’re a fool. And when the judge sees my video tape in the story. Especially when I drive 15 miles an hour in the CBD.
