Ridgewood NJ, over the last couple of years the Ridgewood vs Montclair high school football rivalry has heated up . Unfortunately for the Maroons, pregame celebrations honoring Ridgewood High School Seniors were not enough to overcome the Montclair Mounties defense .
Ridgewood got off to a quick start scoring twice in their first three possessions courtesy of a Matt Schwindt 23-yard field goal and Bobby Kuenzler six-yard touchdown run making it 10-0 Ridgewood early in the second quarter. The Mounties responded with a field goal leaving Ridgewood with a 10-3 halftime lead.
Montclair countered in the second half with a first possession drive eating up the clock and culminated with Semaj Adams 12-yard touchdown run on 4th and 1 to even the score at 10 all. Montclair started the 4th quarter at their own 15 yard line and again the Mounties put together an 85 yard drive in eating up 6:50 on the clock and ending the drive with an Adams touchdown run taking the lead 17-10 late in the final period. Penalties and a late interception would shut down the Maroons leaving them to come up short in the 17-10 final.
Three losses so far…
The town of Ridgewood is falling to Monclair-ization so this loss seems appropriate.
