  1. There are too many rankings of schools and colleges.

  2. The ranking criteria must be a hot mess…

  3. What a slide …

  4. 9:30, I do agree! We moved here 40 years ago and we were ranked above that in the nation, not just the state. The schools have eliminated all Gifted and Talented programs in the lower and middle schools and now gear the programs to the slowest child. Our students are BORED. Give them a challenge and raise our rankings!

  5. 5th highest property taxes in the state but only the 28th best schools? Something doesn’t add up there.

  6. Why isn’t the BoE using these rankings to fire poor performing teachers and replace them with hungry, young teachers who want to be here instead of haggling over their health benefit costs?

  7. Well well well…some much for your stellar school system. Where’s that for sale sign we usually put up in June?
100 + million dollar budget…get it now? your getting HOSED.

  8. How many of the schools ranked 1st through 27th have a $100mn annual BoE budget? Are our priorities all wrong?

  9. I think the school system has slipped as for taxes i count 14 towns in the state that pay a lot more than Ridgewood.

  10. Did anyone read beyond the headline? Did anyone look at the actual ranking?

A+ for; academics, teachers, administration & policies, educational outcomes, sports & fitness, and extracurriculars.
A- for; health & safety and facilities & resources.
    B+ for; food.
B- for; student culture & diversity.

These rankings come out regularly, but are based on a different set of criteria each time. Are the criteria that drag the ranking down the ones that are important to the education of children in Ridgewood?

  11. a lot of that 100 mill budget is for salaries at cottage place for people that are not doing any work and are very overpaid

  12. I suggest everyone look at the actual rankings. Many of the top schools are “magnet schools”, “gifted and talented schools”, “specialty schools”, etc. It’s not surprising that they rank so high since they are skimming the top students in a town / county. The “normal” town schools that rank ahead of Ridgewood include Princeton, Millburn, Chatham, Livingston, and a few others. All of those have A+ for Academics, Educational Outcomes, and Extracurriculars, including Ridgewood. This list at least is differentiating schools on very minor issues. So no big deal I’d say!
