RIDGEWOOD — Village officials plan to meet next week with representatives from the Attorney General’s Office to discuss a possible investigation into an additional $377,000 in stolen parking meter coins, the mayor said.

Mayor Paul Aronsohn announced Wednesday night that he would go to Trenton for a meeting Tuesday on the findings of a forensic audit. Other village employees will join the session via telephone.

The audit was initiated soon after former Ridgewood employee Thomas Rica pleaded guilty to four counts of third-degree theft after confessing to pocketing $460,000 in coins from Village Hall’s coin room over three years.

The findings, released earlier this month, indicated that Rica’s thieving began earlier than he admitted, and that an additional $377,526 in parking meter revenue was unaccounted for.

  1. If the mayor can get this case reopened than all well and good because there are way too many unanswered questions by all involved.

  2. He working way to Trenton. Good by and good luck.

  3. Story written by the Mayor’s Press Secretary STAFF WRITER CHRIS HARRIS THE RECORD

  4. As far as reopening the criminal case against Rica, that can’t be done. Double Jeopardy.

There could, however, be some kind of review of the criminal case to see if there were any favors, political interference, sloppy/lazy prosecution work, decisions not to prosecute others when there was evidence otherwise, etc.

Any thought that such a review might somehow lead to more money being recovered by the Village is highly unlikely.

  5. Rica plead guilty to his crime and the sentence was executed, the state can’t retry him it would be double jeopardy, if there was anyone to roll over on he would have done it already.

  6. Did you catch our Breath of Fresh Manager slip last night on the setting of the future rates of the parking meters. I believe she invoked The Bergen County Parking Authority in the Matrix. Hold on people the county has get their cut for building the parking garage.

  7. Aronsohn will and/or say anything to keep his name in the papers. Clearly, he is positioning himself to run against Scott Garrett in 2016. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  8. In case you missed it last night, the insurance company settlement, which was reportedly to be based on the findings of their own auditing firm, isn’t a done deal yet. The Joint Insurance Fund Board of Directors has yet to approve it. Let’s wait and see what becomes of that.

  9. “The findings, released earlier this month, indicated that Rica’s thieving began earlier than he admitted”. If this is true and Rica lied during his allocution to the court, then why can’t his plea bargain be voided and double jeopardy no longer be valid?

  10. other people had to see something, coin boy had a few pall’s in town, and they had to see it. I don’t buy it. and the manager said in last week news paper that mr rica had no boss. that is such a bull shit story. he had a boss he worked in engineering dep’t, mr rica was no boss in that dep’t the manager is hiding info in this case. a few top dog’s wanted to make him a manager of some sort. what a joke that would of bin. in the past if you are a brown nose or real jerk or ass kisser you went up the ladder. that needs to stop . the village has a few lap dog’s still in town, but know we know who they are , yea you .

  11. I thought it was said that Rottenhauser was his boss in one of the papers? He may be one of those lap dogs, mentioned above? He was the jerk who tore down the Valley Posters at a BF meeting. You can’t hide the facts. Someone had a drainage issue, with him,,he came with his sidekick to argue that roof coverage and driveway area required a 6″ pipe and tank…They had already been installed, nice work. Maybe a little prep work would have prevented you and BooBoo from leaving with your tails between your legs! You can’t make this stuff up!

  12. the mayor and the council and the manager are one. they are using the top three dog;s because they know jack shit about running a village. this town is going down, the services went to shit. the new word they use is out source , well may be we need to out source the mayor, council, and the manager with this new kind of talk. people wake up real fast because this crew is dirty. don;t trust any of them. they don’t know what to do so they think oh we can out source the hole town. thats real nice , they are going to send the village that we all love right down the tubes. so much bull shit is going on in town. the fed’s are going to come in and open up a can of worms. you all will see.
    thank you and wake up.

  13. I’m happy to hear this wont be brushed aside. There are way too many unanswered questions, even by NewJersey political standards. I didnt see any mention of who the forensic accountants were. There are excellent professional bloodhounds in the state that would root out these money trails. Anyway, let’s see what happens after the mayor speaks with the AG. And to 2:11pm… while I have issues with the village government, I do agree that those in office and the town manager are doing quite well with the hand they were dealt.

  14. amazed at the apologists above hoping the whole thing goes away… the forensic accountants think its close to $850,000 that was stolen, if not by Rica than others, too. Why are you boys trying to sweep this under the rug, something to hide, hmmmm?

  15. Fully agree with The Flea, if Rica lied during his allocution to the court, then why can’t his plea bargain be voided?

  16. It can be…..and it will.
The county prosecutor did a shitty, rushed job of an investigation……
That much is given….Cant wait for the AG to tear this thing apart and the proverbial crap hits the fan when it becomes public knowledge and everyone in town can see exactly what goes on inside VH. Party’s over pals…..

  17. coin boy ‘s boss should be sent down the road. he was the boss of this scum bum. just wait when the f b i comes into town. the lap dog is going next. he new that shit was going on.

  18. Why doesn’t the mayor open the case of Mr. Sedon’s job being threatened if he did not quit his candidacy two years ago???? Hello? Paul Aronsohn? Are you listening???
