Ridgewood NJ, on March 28th, the Ridgewood Police Department received reports of catalytic converter thefts from residents on Corsa Terrace and Lincoln Avenue. The crimes occurred overnight on 3/27 – 3/28. The Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau is investigating the incidents.

Catalytic converters contain valuable metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium, which can be sold for a high price on the black market. Due to the increasing demand for these metals and the relatively easy access to catalytic converters in vehicles, they have become a popular target for theft. The thieves can easily remove the catalytic converter from a vehicle and sell it to a scrap metal dealer, who will extract the precious metals and sell them to other buyers. The rise in catalytic converter thefts has been attributed to the increasing prices of precious metals, the ease of stealing them, and the high demand for them.
