Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police Department is urging residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity as a wave of vehicle and residential burglaries sweeps through Ridgewood and neighboring towns. Thieves are becoming increasingly bold, even breaking into homes to steal keys for luxury cars parked in driveways.
Thieves Targeting High-End Vehicles in Residential Areas
According to police, recent incidents show a pattern of targeted break-ins aimed at retrieving car keys left inside homes. High-end vehicles parked in driveways are the primary targets, with some thieves entering residences by force to get what they want.
“We’re seeing more aggressive behavior from criminals,” the department said in a statement. “It’s no longer just about stealing what’s in your car—now they’re coming for the keys.”
Police Increase Patrols and Urge Community Cooperation
To combat the uptick in burglaries, Ridgewood Police have increased patrols in residential neighborhoods and are coordinating efforts with surrounding towns and law enforcement agencies to track trends and shared suspects.
Safety Tips for Ridgewood Residents
The Ridgewood Police Department encourages all residents to take the following preventative measures:
-
Always lock your car doors and windows—even in your driveway.
-
Lock your home and set your alarm system if you have one.
-
Ensure all house windows and sliding doors are secured, especially at night.
-
Do not leave car keys or key fobs near entryways or visible through windows.
-
Report suspicious activity or vehicles immediately to the police.
“Together, we can deter these crimes,” the department emphasized. “We rely on our community’s eyes and ears to help protect every neighborhood.”
If you witness anything out of the ordinary, contact the Ridgewood Police Department right away. In an emergency, always dial 911.

its called insurance fraud
get cameras and a security system
i see many suspicious people who appear to be delivery drivers using personal vehicles (that is why commercial vehicle laws require display of business name)
The most recent incident happened on Mountain Avenue:

These crimes will continue to happen until we get savagely tough with the PENALTIES that are handed down!
Look here: https://www.njoag.gov/newark-man-sentenced-to-state-prison-for-his-role-in-major-carjacking-theft-ring-that-sold-stolen-cars-overseas-seventeen-men-have-pleaded-guilty-and-face-prison-sentences-in-operation-17/
The criminal got only 5 years in prison. 5 years? That’s nothing!! Should be 15 years MINIMUM! At that point, the criminals will stop and think whether it’s worth it…
criminals know the limousine liberals that live here likely won’t have a firearm to defend themselves. this shit doesn’t happen in texas or FL, where second amendment is respected
I believe many residents would be shocked to learn just how brazen these criminals have become. For years, we’ve heard from our police department that robbers and car thieves are only after property and prefer to avoid confrontation.
But the fact that they’re now entering homes—fully aware that residents are sleeping upstairs—completely undermines that narrative. This behavior clearly shows they are not only willing but prepared to engage in a potentially deadly confrontation.
As for the RPD: “You are what your record says you are.” And right now, the record says these criminals have no fear of you interfering with their crimes.
Illegal bird feeders are the priority.
I was told that a house off Lincoln was broken into while the residents were sleeping
Well the police need to do more cruising . Stop hanging on rt 17. How many miles are they doing. They should be doing 75 to 100. A shift
And on Habernickel parking lot using the Porto potty and making sure no carrots are stolen
Buy a gun
3 incidents in Country Club section this week. People were home. Mountain/Melrose and Highland.
The shotguns are down from the attic in this house.
I heard this from neighbors – not sure if I have seen the town address this in any way.
Wait a second! There were literally three (3) separate incidents in the Country Club section *this week* alone? That’s insane!
Where are the news reports about this?
We live in Ridgewood, not the South Bronx. What the hell is being done about this?
@RidgewoodPolice — what say you???
What times of the day did these break-ins in the Country Club section happen??
What happened to the good old days? When a car or a bike were stolen, the cops went to the bridges to Paterson & waited for them. Everybody knows the perps are going to Newark.
