Ridgewood Schools Superintendent: “The cost of changing out all of the water filters is exorbitant. Send your students with water if you’re concerned [about PFAS].”

Ridgewood NJ, Translation: The Ridgewood Board of Education would rather spend money on athletic field upgrades ($80k of funding being provided to Village of Ridgewood for lighting at Vets Field and additional funding set aside to address reconfiguration of athletic field at Benjamin Franklin Middle School) than improving water quality at school drinking fountains.

No School Resource Officers will be hired for deployment at all of the elementary schools this coming year either. Too expensive for the BOE, maybe? So, perhaps those parents who are “concerned” about violence should consider sending their kids to school with riot helmets and bullet proof vests?
Insane. Sports trumps health & safety. Only in Ridgewood.

  1. Sports is top priority above all else.

  2. And send your elementary school kid with a baseball bat if you’re concerned about them being bullied or harassed. Can’t afford armed security for the youngest residents.

  3. This is the same guy who said ” pick your poison” when talking about artificial turf. Maybe he’s another one who believes PFAS is everywhere like mayor Paul Vagisnos who got voted in because the sports hobbyists and lobbyists voted for him for that very reason.

  4. “Exorbitant?” They spend money on Cottage Place like it grows on trees. This has to be the first time in history I’ve heard a Ridgewood schools superintendent complain about the cost of something.

  5. He literally said that the science is not clear about the effects of forever chemicals on the body. He is like Mortimer. Just spewing nonsense

  6. Two questions:

    1. Are all of the water fountain/bottle refill stations in the board of education‘s admin building equipment with filters?

    2. How much were taxpayers billed for bottled water services in the school district during the last 12 months?

  7. Here’s a thought; cut administrative costs. The science is clear on that.

  8. Who uses water fountains? With all the contagious diseases going around I would never use one.

Get a refillable water bottle and fill it at home. Problem solved, no school money needed.

  9. RW schools are a shell of their former glory

  10. We need that money for the new DEI administrator, so they can tell your kids that they are horrible racists and to hate themselves.

  11. Yes cut admin costs and some of the useless admin

  12. Let’s cut this guy’s salary (a la DOGE) and use the excess funds to pay to upgrade the various systems. I like this plan…

  13. A sip from the water fountain is essentially harmless. When Ridgewood Water (soon to be Veolia) installs all the PFAS filters, the problem will self-resolve. Save the fight for DEI and the like.
