RIDGEWOOD, NJ – In a major win for clean water initiatives and local infrastructure, Ridgewood Water has been awarded $1 million in state funding as part of the FY2026 New Jersey state budget, according to Village Manager Keith Kazmark. This funding will support PFAS mitigation efforts, specifically contributing to the construction of the Main PFAS Treatment Facility in Glen Rock.

💧 A Milestone in Ridgewood Water’s Clean Water Campaign

Ridgewood Water Director Richard Calbi praised the allocation, stating:

“Ridgewood Water is grateful to the Governor and the members of the legislature who helped champion this critical budget resolution.”

Calbi emphasized that the agency is executing one of the largest public works and capital improvement initiatives in its history. This includes:

  • Securing federal funding

  • Utilizing low-interest loans and principal forgiveness through NJ IBANK

  • Litigating against polluters

  • Filing claims on legacy insurance policies

  • Now, obtaining direct support from the state budget

🏗️ Project Timeline and Scope

Construction on the Main PFAS Treatment Facility is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and conclude by the end of 2026. This project is a critical part of Ridgewood Water’s $150 million system-wide PFAS remediation effort, which includes 12 treatment facilities.

Once operational in 2026:

  • All regulated PFAS compounds will be nondetectable

  • The system will exceed the EPA’s safety standard of 4 parts per trillion

  • Ridgewood Water will meet federal deadlines five years early (EPA deadline: 2031)

🛡️ Protecting Public Health and the Environment

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are harmful man-made chemicals linked to various health issues. Ridgewood Water’s aggressive approach to PFAS removal demonstrates a commitment to:

  • Public health

  • Environmental stewardship

  • Resilient infrastructure

📍 Community Impact

Ridgewood, Glen Rock, and surrounding communities will benefit from:

  • Safer, cleaner drinking water

  • Stronger environmental protections

  • Increased confidence in public utilities

This initiative positions Ridgewood Water as a statewide leader in water quality and infrastructure modernization.
