Ridgewood NJ, he Ridgewood Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are proud to announce a new partnership with The Valley Hospital to station a paramedic unit at the OEM Headquarters, located at 33 Douglas Place, Ridgewood.

This collaboration brings ALS 404, an Advanced Life Support unit, back to Ridgewood, providing enhanced emergency response coverage during peak hours to better serve the community.

Dedicated 24/7 EMS Support Continues

While Ridgewood Fire Department’s career Fire Fighter/EMTs will continue to provide round-the-clock ambulance and EMS services, the addition of the Valley Hospital paramedic unit offers an extra layer of support to meet growing demand for Advanced Life Support (ALS) services.

Fire Chief John T. Judge emphasized the importance of this initiative:

“We are excited to bring this new partnership to the Village. Valley previously had a paramedic unit stationed in Ridgewood, but it was moved when the hospital began shifting facilities to Paramus. Due to call volume increases and fewer available paramedic units, there is a definite need for more coverage.”

Chief Judge noted that the Ridgewood Fire Department responded to over 1,500 EMS calls in 2024, highlighting the rising need for comprehensive emergency care.

Valley Hospital’s Commitment to Ridgewood

The Valley Hospital team is equally enthusiastic about the partnership.

“The Valley Hospital Emergency Services team is thrilled to have a paramedic truck back in the Village of Ridgewood, allowing us to provide rapid and high-quality care to the community,” said Ingrid Santucci, Manager of Emergency Medical Services at The Valley Hospital.

Community Benefits of ALS 404

  • Enhanced Emergency Response: The ALS 404 unit will provide critical advanced care during high-demand periods, bridging the gap between basic and advanced life support services.
  • Faster Response Times: With the paramedic unit stationed locally, Ridgewood residents can expect quicker access to specialized emergency care.
  • Collaborative Care: The partnership fosters a seamless integration between the Ridgewood Fire Department and Valley Hospital EMS teams.

  1. Great to hear. Likely will be needed when we open our property tax bills

  2. The press release fails to mention that this is a one year trial only. The release also fails to mention that this unit will not be operating 24/7/365. It only operates Monday through Friday during the day, if adequate personnel resources are available.

  3. Im pretty sure this will be dispatched by MICOM just like every other ALS and can respond into any town which it is required and it’s not merely a resource of Ridgewood but the fine people of Ridgewood know no difference.

  4. Hey, it’s a good thing, every town is looking for EMTs. Every town should have paid EMTs that’s going to be the future police fire. EMTs will round up in one because Burton County is getting so overpopulated that we need the manpower in every town now.
