Ridgewood Nj, in a significant step to enhance community spaces, the Village Ridgewood,  has upgraded the Lower Hawes Field at Pleasant Park to improve safety and playability for local athletes.

A Vision Revisited

The journey began in February 2023 when Councilwoman Siobhan Winograd advocated revisiting plans for a 90-foot baseball diamond at Lower Hawes Field. The focus shifted toward improving the field’s safety and usability, leading to a vital decision in October 2024.

The Transformation

The Village Council awarded a $97,645 contract to resod Lower Hawes Field, addressing unevenness and ensuring a safer playing surface. The project, funded entirely through the Village’s registration and permit fee trust fund, has no impact on municipal budgets or capital funding.

According to Village Manager Keith Kazmark, work commenced this week, bringing the vision to life with the installation of new natural sod.

Why It Matters

Lower Hawes Field is a hub for local students and athletes, hosting numerous games and practices. The improved field enhances not only safety but also the overall quality of play, making it a better experience for all.

A Community Asset

The revitalized field is already making an impression, with its smooth, freshly sodded surface ready for use. These improvements demonstrate Ridgewood’s commitment to supporting its community and fostering a safe environment for young athletes.

  1. Is this a VOR property or a BOE property?

  2. In the end, it doesn’t matter. It’s still on the village, just like your house you don’t own it you may think you on it even if you don’t have a mortgage and you don’t pay your taxes after two years guess what the town Burton County they’ll be knocking on your door. Right

  3. Thank you for using natural sod instead of artificial turf.
