Seeking Ridgewood Residents to Volunteer to Serve on Various Boards and Committees

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Village Council is looking for residents who are interested in volunteering to serve on the following Boards and Committees: Shade Tree Commission, Citizens Safety Advisory Committee, Project Pride Committee and Ridgewood Arts Council.

A new Committee being formed, the Residential Flood Advisory Committee, also is seeking Village resident members.

All interested residents should download and fill out a Citizen Volunteer Leadership form,

The Citizen Volunteer Leadership form should be sent with a cover letter indicating which board(s) or committee(s) the resident wishes to serve on, and a biography or resume to: hmailander@ridgewoodnj.net (with the subject line “Volunteer for Board/Committee”) or Heather Mailander, Village Clerk, Village of Ridgewood, 131 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ  07450.

The deadline for submissions is September 3, 2024. 

  • Shade Tree Commission works closely with the Parks and Recreation Department, Green Ridgewood, and the Ridgewood Green Team to promote resident awareness and education as well as to advise and provide recommendations to the Village Council in promoting and sustaining a safe and productive shade tree resource.
  • Citizens Safety Advisory Committee makes recommendations to the Village Council on issues concerning pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular safety on all roads, parks and open spaces in Ridgewood, and promotes awareness of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular safety in order to improve the safe travel of all people in Ridgewood.
  • Project Pride Committee works with the Village Council, Village Management, residents and stakeholders to organize and initiate improvements to foster a visually appealing environment throughout the Village of Ridgewood. Project Pride is responsible for organizing and implementing the Central Business District spring/summer plantings, including budget preparation and request, and recruiting volunteers to help with these plantings. Project Pride also seeks stakeholder input to foster improvements to areas throughout the Village.
  •  Ridgewood Arts Council assists in the promotion of, and encourages, artistic and cultural programs and provides for educational opportunities in the areas of art and culture. The Ridgewood Arts Council also provides advice, guidance and recommendations to the Village Council as needed.
  • Residential Flood Advisory Committee gives voice to Ridgewood residents who have experienced river or stormwater flooding in their homes and to facilitate communication between them and the Village Manager, Village Council and Planning Board, along with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency regarding measures to prevent and mitigate floods in the Village of Ridgewood. This committee is made up of seven Village residents, consisting of: one member from the Green Ridgewood Committee, two Village residents who have experienced flooding in their homes from the Saddle River, two Village residents who have experienced flooding in their homes from the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, and two Village residents who have experienced flooding in their homes due to stormwater runoff. In your cover letter for this committee, please indicate your street address and from which source (Saddle River, Ho-Ho-Kus Brook or stormwater runoff) you have experienced flooding in your home.

  1. I know people that have tried to get selected by one of these committees.. What is the criteria. Is it a nepotism plant or a friend of someone on the council as is the case with some of these committees or commissions? Seems like there are no clear standards. An investigation should be conducted and information should be given to the public as to who is on the committees and what experience is it based on.

  4. How about a new committee for Contamination throughout the village?

  5. Don’t even waste your time volunteer on his committees, it’s all smokescreen because the powers to be will do what they want anyway. I had so many friends and family volunteer on these committees and it turns out to be one big argument spend time with your family better off.

  6. I tried to join Rec squad one year….had a decent interview I thought but I didn’t get the job.
